Post Continued:

One of the MANY benefits of re-doing this truck was all of the problems Im able to take care of while doing it.
It started out just to get rid of the roof rot and rats nest wiring harness. But as I started pulling the FE I realised that the accessory brackets were a mish-mash of wrong and wrongly installed brackets spaced out here and there with washers. It even had a stud broken off in the front of the L cylinder head.
I was able to put together a full set of correct brakets and install them with all accesories lining up perfectly. All adjustments work and damn-it when you got all the right brackets on an FE it just looks better too.

Anyway, the engine is all sealed and ready to be wired and plumbed. I can hardly wait for my firewall cover to come. :D

trukcrazy,

Pro or not, I will know every nut, bolt, wire and hose on/in this truck. And that will feel pretty good when I turn the key.

mrsnicks,

   Good one! But I never would have thought of doing it any other way. :D

That might be the best feeling in the world! Besides the first time you look at your newborn, of course!

You have done a great job on it. Thanks for all the pics showing the progress. I purchased a chrome low alt. mount like yours and never did figure out how to mount it. Now I know and thanks. Also what color are your valve covers? I like them like that. Also what intake is that? Edlebrock Streetmaster? With my new Crane XR-I ign. I mounted the ballast resistor on a front valve cover bolt and do not like it there so now thanks to you I,ll mount it at the trapeze mount holes I dont use. Thanks for all the ideas.

widegauge, spartman, 71 LONG BED,

Thanks. :D Im Having fun and Im proud of my ole girl.

CJ,s 67 F100,

Your welcome. Always glad to help.

Yup, thats how it mounts. Between the hack-job brackets the PO had done on my 70 and the good brackets from my 72 donor I put together a full set of correct brackets for an FE with all origional and correct bolts, studs, and nuts.
Its amazing how easy it is to adjust the belts when everything works.
I bet a chrome set would look sweet!

The valve covers are cast iron grey engine enamel. (several coats) and so is the water pump.

Yes, the intake is an Edel Streetmaster. I love those intakes.
They dont make em anymore so thier gettn hard to find and usualy when you do find em somebody has already ripped the threads out of em or cracked and patched one spot or another.

Dont quite know how they make torque down low with a single plane intake but they do and by the time you twist the FE up to 2500RPM its like gettn a kick in the back.
That setup with the Mallory Dual Point & headers gets me 10-13MPG. on a otherwise stock 360 and can light up 31X10.50 BFG AT tires from a stand still. (The 3.73 gear in the D60 might help W/that too :D )
Anyway, the MPG is the same as the old 2BBL carb with the cast intake. (And more fun to drive)

As far as the resistor, I would not like it on a VC bolt either.
I originaly had it mounted to the firewall with a sheet metal screw and just had it sitting on the intake after the cab swap for the pictures.
Now that you bring it up. I like YOUR idea to put it on the trapeze mount. 8)

Thanks for the comments and ideas. :D

But you didnt say anything about my 'classic' coat hanger throttle linkage.
