Dash pad

Post by 71 LONG BED »

I pulled the dash pad off this weekend and I like it. It looks like something was laying on the dash when they painted though. I wish these old trucks could talk sometimes. I will need to paint the whole interior eventually but for now it isn't bad. I mocked up the F-750 gauges too (should have taken a pic) and it looks like it's 10 yrs older than it is. Gives it a real '60's feel. Not much of an update but it is the most I've done lately, besides drive it.
Sorry about the glare it was very sunny and late in the day when these were taken.

Make sure to grab the defroster grills out of your pad.

Do they come out? My brother in-law looked and said they wouldn't come out. I should have looked myself. I still have the dash pad so I'll look when I get home from work today. How do they come out? Do I have to cut them out?

Thanks 460 crew. I actually had them out before I came on the forum tonite. They come out easy. I took some pics and will attach them because I took a few. Just use a sharp razorblade and trim the foam away. Then carefully push them away from the dashpad. They are stuck on with adhesive. I hope my pics help some others who try this. My little contribution...

I brought the grills into work today so I can media blast them. I still can't decide if I want to paint them the same color as the dash or go with silver or maybe black. :hmm:

Thanks for poting that. I found it very helpfull. Good pix too.
I gave my old dash pad away but if I had known that you could salvage those grills I probably would have. But Im sure busted up dash pads arent hard to come by so saving the grills out of one is a good idea.

I desided on a color for my interior. I'm not sure what the official color is. It is a metalflack black. Here are the dash vents painted.

I also started painting my door panels. Duplicolor has a great vinal and fabric paint. I'm not sure how long it will hold up, but so far I am impressed. I will post more pics when I finish. I ran out of time today.

Looking good John. I might do the same to mine and leave the cover off once I get that far. Is it hard to remove the screws that hold it in? Did you have to take the whole dash apart to get to them? John

You have to take out the dash cluster and the glove box pretty much. Bunch of little nuts on the backside, pretty straight forward, make sure you don't forget the corner ones before you start yanking on it.
