My 72 Long Wheel Base 302x2bbl F100
Since 1999, my neighbor this brown pickup parked along the fence being overtaken by vines and trees. Her husband died that year and since she just had it parked there without attention. I asked her one day in May 2006 if she was going to sell it and she said no that she would give it to me to get it out of the yard. The adventure begins.
That same day I took battery out of my boat that was my project the summer before and put it in truck and after priming the carb it started right up smoking the whole neighborhood and I'm sure burning quite a few rodents that nested in the exhaust. After a couple of minutes the smoke began to clear and the engine smoothed out to a nice purr. She said he rebuilt the engine in 98. I later found out that it was a 77 engine so I guess since it was a one owner he must have just gotten another engine for it in 99.
We brought her home and started the tear down of the body to find all the rust and cancer. There is plenty to hone my skills of body repair and painting.
I looked on the web for advise and found this perfect website for asking and learning about this truck. I look on here all free moments I have to read about others having the same issues I face and find answers to questions I didn't even ask yet.
I read all the threads from here and MOPARPARTS about the $50 paint job and been following that process with my hood, right fender, cowl and roof area with satisfying results of which I have posted in the past.
I just received my cab corners from LMC and was impressed on the prompt delivery and amount of packing they use to ensure it comes in good shape. They fit perfectly and cant wait to get the bed off so I can install them.

Cool!
Gotta love the purchase price.
Gotta appreciate that our neighbors/friends/family found the Fords
worth keeping up. Until they didn't or couldn't.
Nature is relentless, though. Rodents like the hideaway
spots, and a bramble bush finds opportunity wherever it can.
The rust reaction can be counted upon, like clockwork.
Sun up, sundown, ferrous + water = our target after time.

I keep waiting for all the leaky seals that everyone tells me will occur in a truck that sat that long. Run it every day even without fenders and doors and front end. My golden retriever is still sniffing under there constantly waiting to catch more mice. I think they might be all out but like you said they like the hideaway spots and maybe I haven't found the nest yet. John

Well, I finally got some lye to clean up the alluminum and it works great just like Keith said. I have been following every detail of his instructions and only having trouble in the mixing process of the lye and water. My poor dog is suffering from our experiments with these chemicals though. Some water got in his eye and we thought it was the lye so an emergency run to the vet cost me but he is fine.
Last week he jumped up on the bed when I was painting the roof and knocked over the paint tray landing on his back and belly......Man what a pain that was getting it off. Wife said he's not allowed out when I'm messing with truck now, which will kill him because he loves that truck as much as I do.
I ordered the floor pans and waiting for them to be delivered before I put the seat back in and move it under the tarp to finish the roof. I have a cherry tree here that keeps dropping stuff on my wet paint. The rustoleum paint job is looking great, so good in fact that my brother from Seattle stopped in yesterday and couldn't believe it wasn't sprayed.
It looks like I'm going to have to find a carburator for it though. The plastic pieces on the choke and the other leaks are making the truck hard to stay lit now.

SPARTMAN, STEVE
Baxter is finding this project a little tough. Its a lot better than last year when we rebuilt the boat engine and he wanted to catch the prop as it was turning. That was close, I learned to keep him inside the boat and not on the ground. LOL. John

Ouch, Spartman.
Just when I didn't think it could get worse this morning Baxter was on the wrong end of a skunk. Man, he smells even with two tomato juice baths.
By the way I won a closed bid on an 89 F150 , 5.0 FE LWB for a hundred. I have to pick it up in the morning. A little fixing on that might bring some money from the sale for the 72. Hood ready to go back on the 72 and one more coat on the roof will complete the body till I get the bed off and fix the cab corners.

Picked up the 89 F150 tonight that I won with the closed bid auction advertised as not running. It turns out the gas guage didnt work and only needed gas. Purrs great. Needs TLC to get back in shape but only has 65K on her and I have the original delivery order and all the maintenance records since 89 with it. They purchased it for 11,500 in 89. It got a new trans in 96 when it had 44k.

Well the 89 is looking worse now that we had it up on the lift replacing broken brake lines. Everytime we fixed one another would leak so I'm sure all are going to be replaced. The frame is really rusty but POR-15 will help with that. Tranny is leaking bad but we think its just the pan. The rear main might be leaking and thats the only thing that scares me cause I'd hate to take that tranny out and get too far into this before I finish my main project the 72.
