I'm not sure I could handle another boss. I have a couple at work and 3 at home now, not including the PITA xwife and my mom.

This is not my best work.
The goal right now is just to knock most of the rust off and seal it with primer to slow it down untill I decide if this bed is worth saving.
Meanwhile Ill put it on the frame so I can drive my truck while Im looking for a better one.

layedout72,
Thanks.

Welp, the bed is now on the frame.
It wasnt pretty, but its on and I did it by myself. (Something I dont recomend anyone else try because it wasnt exactly safe and I did wind up scratching my cab in a couple of places)
Next week ends plan is to get the bed sides and inside sanded and primed so it wont be so ugly. That will have to do till I can get some more paint and Hurculiner.

Still gotta run the wiring harness for the tail lamps and figure out what to do with the inside door panels. Also still have to put the headliner in.
There is like a bazillion little things left to do but they pale in comparrison to what Ive already accomplished.

Thanks to all of the help and support from this forum Im now on the downhill side of this project.

Last set. Truck with bed on. All bolts in. And yes Keith. I tried to bang out all of the dents in the wheel wells. :P (the best that I could anyway)

Looks great. Don't get trapped in the "I'll wait until I find a better bed" thing. You might not ever finish.

Sharkdance, what are you planning on using in those grooves on the bed to fill those in with?

dablack00,
Thanks for the advice. But at this point Im forced to use what Ive got.
I keep flip-flopping on whether or not to invest the time and money into this one, but at this point it looks like this bed is my best candidate.
Its realy not in that bad of shape. Just wish I had a better one to start with is all.
Im realy not that worried about it because should I ever find a better one (that I can afford) swapping a bed is nothing more than a 1 day job.

71 LONG BED,binder56jd
Thanks!

alvinator,
I was planning on welding the seams, but will most likely just clean them up/out, remove/weld up any rust holes, and re-apply some good seam sealer.

rjewkes,
Nope, no clear. Just single stage Acrylic Enamel paint with hardner mixed into the paint before spraying.
No buffing, no wax, nothing.
Still gotta scuff it up for one more coat of paint to make everything match though.

Ol' Sharkdance. That bed looks OK. I mean, you gotta have a couple flaws showing. Is it the bed that went with this cab or from your original?
De-rust it and do your painting and let us see it soon :D.
