Rockwells in a Highboy

I'm planing on putting a set of 2.5ton rockwells in my 72 crew cab highboy. Has anyone done this swap & what mods did you have to do to get it to fit? I plan on running a 78-79 f250-f350 4x4 power steering gear box. Some pic would be good too. Thanks,Ron

You might be better off going to a 4x4 website, pirate4x4.com has alot of good information. You would need to relocate the steering box, spring mounts, driveshafts, and also probably need to have a hydro assist steering.

Yep on the hydro, with 2.5 Rocks you plan on running tires that are going to need alot more than what the stock box offers in original form. Alot of changes will have to be made like Boots said. What engine and tranny are you planning on, and what are you doing with it? Mud?? With rockwellss you have to figure out brakes also, most do a diff brake like the monster trucks run. Keep us posted and take pics.

Fully agree that it depends on desired usage. I myself wouldn't be moving up to rockwells except for the fact that I will be going with the new "54 boggers. You can take the one ton axles and with a good truss, chromoly axles, ctms or equivilents, and even some crane or dedenbear knuckles if needed.....and they can handle what 99% of the wheelers can dish out.

But, if your heart is set on putting in the rockwells its not that huge of a deal provided that you are comfortable with fabrication. Their square tubes make for easy fourlinking. The suggestion to check out all the info on pirate is a good one, all the pics and info you could want there.
