Brake Light

Post by cghstrojan08 »

There is a little circle light in the bottom left hand corner of the dash. Is that the e-brake light? Mine isn't coming on. I tested the outlet where you put the bulb and there is nothing. Where does the light connect to the e-brake? Thanks!

That light is connected to your distribution block. There is a valve in there that is normally centered. When one side of you brakes system devolps a pressure loss, that vale goes off center and turns on the warning light.

In my opinion the Stickied "FAQ" Threads are hidden down in the Registered Users Only forum.

Here is a good thread on fixing your problem:

Information pertinent to you starts a few posts down in the thread.

You don't want it to come on. If it does you have an unbalanced brake system. To find the distribution block, trace your brake lines from the MC to where they enter a metal block. That's it. There is an electrical connector on it. That is the wiring for the indicator light. I'm not sure how to test it, though.
I think it's supposed to come on briefly when the engine is started.

I tested it and it is always on. I read the thing you posted. So, I can't buy a new one? I really hate bleeding brakes. I had to replace the mc twice. I got a rebuild one and it was bad.

is the bulb burnt out. if so then you can adjust the vavle on the frame i think. if the bulb is good and its not coming then forget all about it. its fine leave it alone until it comes on.

There is a way to recenter the valve, but I'm not sure how it's done. Somebody can probably tell you how to do it.

then you need to bleed the brakes and recenter the valve as a last resort.

That means the brake system is not centered, once you bleed the brake system you can centered the system which turns off the light by turning on the key (key on engine not running) and push the brake pedal hard severel times as far as it will allow sometimes this can take a lot of pedal effort this should center the system and turn off the light if not rebleed the brakes and do the above all over again this can take some time as the dis block can be stubborn at times, once the system is centered the light goes out and you have equal pressure in the system as it should be. After that the light only comes on for a moment while the key is turned on in the start position durning cranking then goes out ,this is a test thing so you know its working proper, so replace the bulb and do as suggested above. BTY the switches almost never go bad in fact I've never seen one go bad. 8)
