My very own prject '48
I was inspired to get these pics up after seeing the other '48. I have a few questions on some stuff on this truck that maybe some of you can answer. It is a '48 F1 with a flat 6.
It has this latch thing on the top of the cab:
anyone know what that was for? This next pic might help with that it has numbers on the side much like a military or fleet truck would have says U6000:
Now one more, what is this thing? One hose goes to the base of the carb. mount:
And for good measure here is a quick pic of the '72 enjoying a week in the garage:
About 12 more pics of the '48 here:

It just needs a tank to be running again and a brake job to be road worthy. I am thinking of getting the gas tank in and brakes done and slipping a bench seat I have in the cab and running it around for a while until I have more room to work it over. It also needs all new glass, the back window I can live with for now but everything else needs to be new.

If the sliders intact when you get rid of it I'll buy it. Shipping shouldn't be too high.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

Man after seeing all these old truck pics makes me want to finish my 69 and buy me an old fat fendered ford. My cousin just bought a 54 Ford yesterday.
1969 Ford F-100. 302 4 barrel, C4 auto, 9in 3.50 open rear, headers, power steering, Turq/wht, Under restoration. In other words, in a million pieces!!!

No, they have a very high (numerically) rear gear and top out at about 45-50mph from what I have read.dcbullet wrote:That is pretty cool! If that was restored to original condition, can it drive 65 mph on the highway?
I am hoping to hook up an external fuel source tonite and hear the engine run.

Hello from FL. One of my previous trucks had that same bracket on the roof . It was a ambulance '51 Ford Panel by Seibert. I would guess it was a siren or red light . I have the books on your truck if you need any reference. Dude

Thanks, I was thinking it had something to do with a light. I am thinking it was a commercial truck of some kind since it has the weight number on the side.
I went to a shop Fri. that is redoing a '51 and scored all kinds of parts they were scrapping off of it and got a brand new extra carpet kit that they must have over ordered.

Sweet truck! That is awesome. The more I see of these, the more I want one as well. I have always had the dream of having a huge 1967-192 Ford Truck haven...not a junk yard, but a haven, where I can recover as many of these babies as possible, house them, disassemble the ones that are too far gone, salvage what can be salvaged and store up parts...now i'm thinking all Ford trucks should be included.
I even had my wife commenting on a 61 or 62 unibody not too long ago...Hmmm!
Anyways, back to your truck...good luck, it is awesome and I wish you the best of luck.

Galaxy,I wonder if that thing with the hose going to the carb is part of the vacuum wiper system?...It seems like years ago,a lot of states required pickup trucks to have their G.V.W. printed somewhere on the side of the truck--usually 8000 for a 3/4 ton and 6000 for a 1/2 ton...Don't know what the "U" would stand for ,though...Looks like a fun project...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

I think that is what it is for, the wipers. I have been looking through the catalogs and found something that looks very similar to it that had to do with the wipers.
My dad thought that number was probably GVW as well.
