16" Tires on 5 Bolt F-100 Rims ??
Was looking at the option sheet for the 68-100 today, and noticed that it said it came with 16" tires.I was'nt aware you could get a 5 bolt rim with 16" tires. Are these 5 bolt 16" rims common?Truck was swapped over to 15" rims at some point in its life, and has 235/15's on it now.Gear ratio seems pretty low, guess this is why.Is it easy to find the proper 16"rimsThanks again.

I see 16x5K wheels as an option for 68...But I don't think those
were very common. The norm would be the 15 inch wheels...
I'm not sure what the deal was on those, being tires have
changed so much since then. I would think they would be
5 hole, as the 15's, but I'm not totally sure...They *might* have
even been some weird kind of split rim...My 68 f-250 came
with 8 lug 16 inch split rims. I changed to standard one
piece wheels a couple of years ago...Myself, I think I would
stick with the 15 inch wheels unless you can find a solid set...
You sure don't want any split rims...Those are a PIA, and can be
dangerous if handled incorrectly. Also, must use tubes, naturally,
and if you get a nail, you are SOL...Thats the main reason I dumped
mine, and went to tubeless radials...At least now, I can pick up a nail,
and not worry about it, until I can deal with it later...It'll just leak slow...
BTW....The *standard* wheel for the F-100 in 68 was listed as
15 inch x 5.5k. As options, they listed a 15x5.5 HD??, and the 16x5k.
I'm not sure what the "k" means...MK

The F-100s could be had with 16 inch rims, not split rims. Tire size was probably 6.50x16. I have seen a few sets, usually on 4x4s. I saw a set at the recycleing yard last week but I didn't even ask because they had brand new military tires(plus they told me they didn't sell anything). You can find them from old jeeps and scouts but they don't have the hubcap bumps and the center hole is bigger. The Ford ones are scarce and if you do find them you could always widen them for the newer 16 inch tires. They will probably only be 5.5 inches wide stock.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

16"-5 on 5½ wheels seem to be a rare commodity for both Fords and Jeeps. It took me 2 years to find a couple of 16's for my Jeep and truck spares. I ended up getting a pair of late 50's Jeep wheels. The center hole is the only difference between the two . . . Jeep wheels will fit a Ford but Ford wheels will not fit on a Jeep.
As a side note, an old 16X5 Jeep wheel weighs half again as much as a new 15X8 Cragar 342.

I'm kinda new to this, but you boys must be fergettin that -ALL- 1948-52 f1's, and 53-56 f100's came factory with 5.5"x16" solid steel wheels with the standard 5 on 5.5 lug pattern. They do have the "internal" hubcap nubs, and they will fit 4x4s, but you're ignoring the most important part. They DON'T have any SAFETY BEADS on the bead rim. When you lose pressure for whatever reason, you can walk the tire off the wheel in a heartbeat. This is why I threw all mine away years ago. If you need a "taller" overall height, do it with new tires, not the old rims. But of course, that's just my opinion. Keep on Fordin!
