Hey all,
I'm looking into converting my 72 SWB from 3-on-the-tree manual tranny to a C4 auto when I swap engines, and I had a few questions for anyone that has done this swap:
-Can I use my 3spd cross member when I swap to the C4? I am assuming I am going to have change rubber trans mounts?
-Can I use my original 3 spd driveshaft with a C4? I have a SWB 2wd truck, with a 1 pc driveshaft, and a slip yoke on the tranny end.
Any other tips? I am going from 240/3spd to 300/C4.
Thanks guys
Nick

re: Converting to Automatic---Crossmember Qs???
i've always thought the crossmemebers were the same. i have one from a three speed and one from a c6 i think they look the same.
yes the rubber mount will be different i think also.
driveshafts: length is the real factor. as well as yoke type if both yokes are slip shaft the lenght is your only worry. if the yokes are different then you have two things to worry about.
other tips thoughts. how will you shift the automatic once its in? you will need a way to shift it. either get the correct column for a automatic. or floor shift it. i wouldn't recommend floor shift for a automatic.

I'm going to find a correct auto-trans column for it and rebuild it before I swap it in.
If I can find a power steering setup and the correct column, I may convert it to PS also.

it's possible you can rotate you crossmember 180 degrees and work, it works that way with 435 to c6, and vice versa but I don't know about c4's so check that out before you buy another. ![Clap ](./images/smilies/icon_clap.gif)

i'm using my 3 on the tree crossmember for my FMX, and that crosmember is identical to a c4 transmission crossmember. rotate the crossmember 180* and there you go
