I'm attempting to install an extra tranny cooler in line with the radiator cooler before firing up the rebuilt for the first time. I'd like to locate the cooler in the return line to deal with the heat.
Without fluid in the tranny is there a way to determine which line is the return? One enters the back of the case by the tail pc and one enters the case by the bell housing below the fill tube. It's an FMX.
Thanks for any help.
"O say, does that star spangled banner yet wave? Oer the land of the free and the home of the brave?" It does at my house! God bless America!
Disconnect the lines at the radiator and fire up the engine. Whatever line ISN'T shooting transmission fluid 15 feet in front of the truck is the return line.
j/k. I can't recall right now which is which, hopefully someone else will chime in who actually has something useful to contribute.

Actually the one closest to the front pump has always been outlet to the cooler on any Auto I have worked on. I never worked on an FMX nor did any of my friends when that tranny was common. We all had 4 speeds.
