MadMaxetcs '67 Driver Project

Post by MadMaxetc »

I am goin to go get it on Friday...I am so stoked!!!

Well Here was my original thoughts on what I wanted to replace my '73...
  1. '65-'79 F-100/150
  2. Engine in any condition (including gone)
  3. Any conditon manual trans
  4. SOLID AND VERY RUST FREE!
I wanted this condition because of the spair parts that I have...
  1. REALY good 300 I-6 and 3-speed (in the '73)
  2. A 9" out of a '75 with 3.70:1 gears
  3. 2 sets of front Disk Brakes
  4. An automatic column (short) from a '75
  5. a Saginaw P/S box and pump from a '73
  6. And the '73 has P/B.
After looking for a while I realized that the NO RUST thing was going to hinder my search...but then I found this beauty!

My thoughts where as follows...
  1. It has solid cab mounts and the bed is in great shape
  2. the frame is the same as the F-100/150s
  3. The engine and rear end could be sold off
  4. It has a 4-speed on the floor
So unless I am way off bace on any of this, here is my plan...
  1. Fix the small rusty spots in the floor and sound deaden and insulate it
  2. Re-build a set of I-Beams and Disk Brakes from an F-100/150 and put them on
  3. Take out the Dana 60 and put the 9" in, but keep the 250 springs for the ocational load
  4. Check wirring and wire for DSII
  5. Swap the Power Brakes over
  6. Swap over the 300 and 3-speed on-the-tree
Latter I want to put a T-5 (or some type of OD trans) into it. At that time I would convert it to Power Steering. And if I deside to go with an Automatic I could do that too.

So here are some questions...
  1. Can I use the 9" from the '75 under it with the 250 springs?
  2. When I do the I-Beam swap should I use the linkage for a '67 or a '75?
  3. Is this not going to be a bitchen ride!
Thanks for your help and support guys! :fr:

Dan, everything you mentioned will bolt right up and work fine, with the exception of the rear axle from the '75. The '73-'79 2WD trucks' frames got 4" wider behind the cab, so the spring perches got spread out as well. The rearend itself is also wider, which in of itself is good, because it solves the problem of the bumpside's rear wheels not tracking behind the fronts. If you were to move the spring perches on the '75 rearend out 2" on each side, it'll bolt up.

The steering column will physically bolt up and fit fine, but since this generation of truck had the emergency flasher switch located on the column (instead of the dash like bumpside trucks), you'll have to do some minor rewiring...nothing major by any means.

You asked: "When I do the I-Beam swap should I use the linkage for a '67 or a '75?". Are you referring to the shifter linkage? If so, I don't believe it matters...either should work just fine.

Looks/sounds like a fun project! Keep us informed (and share some more pics) as things progress.

KEITH, HE MAy have meant the steering linkage, like tierod ends, idler arm. I'd use those parts for a 73-79 truck.

As for the linkage question…dotcentral was right.

I was referring to the fact that there are different part numbers for the Drag Link and Tie Rods from ’67 and ’75. I was wondering if this because of the spindles or if it has to do with ride height and the pitman arm or is it something else?

I will plan on using the ones from '75.

Thanks,
Dan

The holes in the disk spindles (from the 73-79) are deeper, or longer, however you say it. In other words, you will need to at least use the tie rod ends from the donor because they are longer. As for the rest of the linkage it's up to you, they both work. I hope I was clear enough in my explanation. :D

Look here, for Keith's write up on the subject, to get more info.

Just to clarify (and I know its just a typo because Keith is all over this stuff.....) but the spring perches for the '75 rearend will have to be moved in rather than out........

Just like our trucks...you can't stop a thing of beauty!

:D :D

I got her home tonight...all safe and sound.

The timming on the 360 (thats what he said it is, but I think it is a 352) is bad. I think she will run OK if I fix that. That will make it easy to move in and out of the garage.

WELL SOAB!!!

I was looking at the paperwork (title) and the VIN on the title and the door are...

F10AKA99572

Now it doesn't take but a quick look at the truck to see it is an F-250 with a 352!

So I looked in the glove box and found a bunch of proof of insurance cards. The last one is to a guy here in town. And the VIN on it is...

F25YRA57470

So great that is the VIN (checked the frame) so I think this guy is the one that would eather have the Title or could get a copy. So I look at the title I have and it has been signed over to him AND OR his wife! Great! So I need to track down this guy or wife to get the title so I can get some tags.

Well I finaly find the number for the address and it is to his wife (same first name anyway) but the last name is differant! Great! They are probly devorced and now I am screwed!

But all hope is not lost yet. I still have not talked to her. I am hoping that all this stuff is still under her maden name or that she will be nice and try to help.

Yoyu guys have any sugjestions on a differant cource of action?

Pray for me...I am going to need it.

Remember who you bought it from and if it don't check out turn 'em in for it. I hope its just a simple body swap and use of the new bodies tittle and not a stolen/retitled f250.
