Well, its been a while since I've updated on here. My motor decided that it didn't want to live anymore a few weeks ago, so now I'm in the process of getting a new one. That basically threw my whole project to a screeching halt. Now I've got to decide whether I should go with a efi 302 or a efi 300 I6. I'm not really sure which i will use, probly the first one I find.

Well, I finally bought a motor for my bump, a 300 I-6 out of a 67 F-350. I know i was lookin for efi, but this one ran, was only $150 and had a good Np-435 attached to it. So the deal was made. I've been working on getting it swapped in in my driveway (just the motor), however I'm havin troubles with the mounts i bought for it so it'll have to wait till tomarrow. I eventually want to put the tranny in my truck, but cannot afford the driveshaft right now, so I'm gonna stick with the 3 speed. Also, on a side note the NP435 had a PTO on it that will be for sale in the "for sale forum"

Did you just pull the 302 out and drop in the straight six? I thought they had different engine towers?

Sent you a PM.

thanks

A little opdate:

Made first long road trip with my new engine last week. Engine worked fine, but with only 100 miles to go (out of 650), I started to feel a little rattle. It almost sounded like engine detonation, so I pushed the clutch in, turned off the motor, and coasted. Still there. Pulled over to te side turned my truck back on got, and no noise. When I got back up to speed Theres the noise and vibration. Its still just minor at this point. And I'm in the middle of nowhere so I figured "I'll figure it out when I get home". Well, I got a chance to figure it out earlier than that. While driving down the road in third gear, slight pressure on the shifter would cause it all to dissapear. And by slight pressure I mean just holding it steady. Then about 20 miles later, I hear a huge BANG, and the truck has a wicked shimmy like a tire blew out. Pull over to the side and nothing is visibly wrong. Get back in start up, nothing. Get back to moving, won't shift into second. Stop again, won't shift into third. I blew up my tranny.

I like tellin stories.

So the real update is have to swap tranny's now. Hopefully I can get it all done soon. I have everythng I need except for a driveshaft for a Np435. This truck is becoming a money pit, but I still love it.

Also I forgot to mention this, but I don't really like the 2 tone blue and white paint I put on there. I think I'm gonna sand it off and go with all white. What do you guys think?

Isn't that the way it always goes. new motor = blown tranny. New tranny = blown rear.

If I were you, I would change the fluid in the rear when you put that new trans and drive shaft in.

Well, I decided to pull my front sheetmetal in order to do the tranny swap. This will make things easier, because I don't have a transmission jack, and don't really feel like getting crushed after I figure out that I can't bench press a Np435. So tonight I took the front sheetmeatl off.
Here are some pics:

My buddy and I were lookin at the motor and cleanin it up a little, and I found the motor tag. Turns out that the thing is a 240. I should have looked at that before I bought it. Ohh well, too late now.

Did you buy that motor and trans from a guy on craigslist? Did it come out of a red truck? He was trying to sell a rusted out plain jane long bed for $950. I offered him $200 for the engine and motor. He didn't bite. Oh well. Anyway, he kept saying it was a 300! 300! I kept saying No....its a 240. I think he thought I was trying to talk him down.

Anyway, don't worry about it being a 240. It could have been rebuilt? You need to check the stroke to know for sure. I like the 240 just as much as the 300. Less torque, but it revs better. No big deal. If you gear it correctly (you will be geared correctly w/ the rear your getting from me) it will move out just fine.
