Headlight Switch removal

Post by DannyF »

I have a 1971 F-100 and I believe the headlight switch is going bad as the lights go off and on after they are on for a little while. Assume bad circuit breaker in the switch.
I have a new switch, but I'm having trouble getting the old one out.
I tried mashing the button on the switch hsg. in and pulling the knob out with no luck. It feels like it is still hitting the button.
Does anyone have any suggestions short of taking a hammer to it?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Danny, try rotating the knob a bit,and wiggling up& down and if the knob on the top of the switch is pushed all the way in ,and it still hits then tug on the headlight knob some, i have had sticky ones before too.last resort is cut the shaft off with a hacksaw. i have a bunch of them if you have to do that and need a new knob.
the best thing to do to avoid these problems is to change the wiring so the lights work off relays because the factory wires are too small for the current flowing thru them.
you can do it yourself or there is a member selling them already to go

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

Sometimes you just need to push harder on the button as sometimes it feels/looks as pushed as it will go aslo you might try jiggling th the knob as you pull on it.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~
