Tranny leak again

Post by 69rangerman »

Well, I went to the trouble of replacing the FMX's pump seal and shaft seal but It's leaking just as much as it did before the motor rebuild. :o

The pan is dry, the fill tube area is dry, and the tranny line fittings are dry.Block and bell haven't had time to get dirty yet so it's definately coming from the converter area.

Could it be anything else besides the front pump or shaft seal?

Does a torque converter leak? and how could I tell?

Just got it back to DD status and don't want to drop the tranny just yet but it's gonna bug me.

Thanks. :fr:

the convertor could have had a worn spot arond the part that engages the pump. it should have been nice and straight and smooth. if it had very much of a ring wore in that part that boes in the trans it will leak. you can either bear with itor change it. if that is what is wrong.

The converter like fordman says will be obvious if the converter has a ring from wear. The bell hosing area should be showing fluid.

Out of all my vendors that is it that I can find for FMX.

And I just stopped short of replacing the converter...shoot! I do remember a thin wear ring around the backside of the converter. And the inside of the bell was fairly wet when I pulled the TQ. Oh well, type F isn't too expensive and it'll get me in the habit of checking the other fluids on a reg. basis.

Good excuse for a higher stall in the future, or AOD swap. :D

Thanks
