i beleive they are 5/16x20 threads grade 8's or 5's from ace or true vallue would be ok. not sure on length though. think thats 1/2" in length maybe 3/4" at most should be between .15-.45 per bolt.

there are a few that are quite long. I guess I could take them and match them up in the store. I believe they have a thread chart as well, where you thread your bolt in, and its labeled what it is.

just posting some pics of my recent engine progress. getting some external stuff buttoned up and ready to go. It's ready for the truck, I am just worried about the motor mounts. They are one piece, rather than two like the stock, and seems like the driver side was offset in the stock mounts....not these. ALSO, does the coil mount on the intake? I swear in an old pic it looks that way, but I may have to change that.

From the look of the valvetrain it should have older 302 heads on it. Smaller chambers for more compression. Should be a good running motor. Did you add a cam or anything like that?

its a 72 motor, 71 intake. the long block and all is from a 72. no cam, just bigger valves i believe. he said something about how the vlaves had rounded over so he machined the seats, got bigger valves and opened up the guides to accept them. That's how I understood it anyways.

layedout72,
I think the coils were mounted on the intake. I don't care for that location either.

well, I must have caught one pulling the motor out because the top plate came off of the rubber mount that attaches to the frame I believe. All is well though hopefully, I am ready to get it in!

After looking at my pictures a little harder it seems they were. Talk about clutter. needless to say, It wont stay mounted there.

engine perches painted. Yes, those are grinder marks. Oh well. You won't see them.
Image

This was right after I hit it with a wire wheel on the power drill. I didn't get it all, but I got enough.
Image

Painted, I know it's not something flashy, and nothing really different. But it's major compared to the original condition it was in.

And, one in the sun.

I hope to have the master cylinder cleaned up, along with the steering box tomorrow. Hopefully I can get some more spray paint as well and hit the frame rails with it. Nothing special, just some black enamel or something to that effect. Just enough to cover it and make it look good. Also, the tranny and motor should go back in this weekend as well.
