HF Blaster, Part Deux
After badmouthing the HF blaster, in the spirit of fairness, I gotta say that the thing really works great. Take a look at this nasty brake backing plate. I spent 60 seconds on each side and it is nearly perfect. Of course, I went through a lot of media. I'm using Black Beauty which sells for $16 per 100# bag.

You can reuse that Midia quite a bit. Just run a magnet through it to get out and metal. The rust particals are small and just make it spark a bit, but they are no harder than the midia itself.

I have a friend who has used that one for four years. He said the only problems he has had with it are clogged tips.

hmmmm
I'm really confused... how come NorthernTool is mainly in south??
It looks like there are only 2 states this side of the Mason - Dixon that have their stores.
wwwuuuzzzzuuuppp wit dat?
Does the stuff come by a differant name? Harbor FRIGHT carries some blasting media, but it is about $1.00 per pound. A 25 pound box is right at $25.00... sometimes it will go on sale for around $16-$18
take care,

Hey Jeff..
Where did ya find the abrasive for 6.99/ 50lbs?
I just went to the NT web page and could only find Black Beauty 25lb for 14.99 plus shipping... and shipping to my zip is $20.13 making it $35.13.
Which is not feasible for me.

Allan, Hey brother It was on page #3 about midway down in abrasives. It was $6.99 @ 50lbs "PLUS SHIPPING" which was around $29.33. So your total would be around $35-36.00..I AM TRULY SORRY IF I MISLEAD YOU, and others.........please accept my appoloiges.

re: HF Blaster, Part Deux
no problem FD...
LayedOut... posted a link that went right to it.
I just didn't see the page links before...
I am going to see if I can find a local supplier so I don't gotta pay that high shipping.
The cost for that 6.99 bag ends up being right at $40 with shipping, which is a little more than I can get the same amount of media on sale at Harbor Freight for.
I know a person who used to live here (they just moved a couple of months ago).
They said they used "black stuff" on the farm they worked at. They got the stuff delivered by the ton. So I figure there has to be a local supplier.
I am gonna call a couple of body shops and see if there have any resources.
I'll let ya know if I come up with anything that could save us both some cash.
Take care...
