I have a '69 4WD 4 speed and a '71 2WD 4 speed. Both F250s.
the '69 4WD has reverse as far right and down.
'71 has reverse as far right and up.
why the difference? I read someones post mentioning that the four wheel drives had a slightly different transmission, can anyone explain to me what the differences are, is one beefier than the other, etc?

re: Manual Transmission Differences
I actually love early T18s with the over and up reverse. The vehicle I learned to drive in was a '68 International 1-ton with an early T18 and, to this day, if I'm not thinking too much and try to hit reverse in my F250, I'll go over and up once, feel retarded, then slide the stick down where it belongs. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_laughing01.gif)
Both of those transmissions, the T18 and NP435 are very strong and durable. They were used in medium-duty trucks for many years. The T18 is a lot easier to float gears.
