my 71f250 project from the day i got it.big update(10/17)

Post by 1971ford »

i have made a project update of my trucks new paintjob that im giving it and have shown a couple other things that ive done to my truck besides paint but i have decided to put allll the stuff ive done to the truck since the day i got it (about a year ago i think ) into a new topic. okay, so starting from day one:

right before i got the truck the brakes were very bad and it wouldnt start because of the ignition. so the PO spent 1600 on the truck a couple days before i got it. (he wanted me to be safe on the ride home). we told the PO that we would pay the price but he payed it immediatly.

when i first got my truck it had a gas leak and a oil leak. the oil leak was fixed simply by tightining the filter. for the gas leak i replaced the hose that was leaking.

this is what the truck looked like when i got it

the next thing i did was take off the lumber rack and sold it.

after that i installed another grille insert, took off the fog lights, and took off the rusted bars on the bumper. then i sanded the rust off of the hood.
this is what it looked like so far.

the i started the interior. i put on a seat cover to hide the :D 99999 tears in the seat. i also got a couple garage mats and cut them up to fit the truck's floor. i used velcro strips to attach the mats to the floor. next i sanded off the rust that was on the glove box door and painted it black (temporary color). then of course i put it back on. i also used steel wool on the blinker lever thing to get the rust off and now its chrome again.this is what the interior now looks like

the i sanded most rust off of the body and primered for the winter. after the winter i sanded the primer off and finished removing all the rust i could. then i re primered it all for paint. then i painted it. ( to see the paintjob that i did look at "1971 ford f250 paintjob" in the project updates section).
heres what it looked like with some rust sanded off before the second summer of sanding, a pic of it primered and then with the new paint (well, what i have done so far).

i also got new mirrors

well tell me what you think of it so far and if there are any suggestions on things to do let me know :D . i plan on getting new wheels, new tailgate lever and plate thing, one peice molded carpot from lmc, new headliner, glove box, stock radio, good cd player in glovebox, repainting inner fenders, cleaning up engine, and lots more.

Looking good! As for wheels, I've always liked chrome with baby moons. Might be too "old school" for some tho.

Your truck has really come a long way. Great job.

As far as aftermarket wheels, this style has always been my favorite for our trucks.

I got rims that look just like that (the centers are the only difference) for my '51 but they are made by eagle. A guy on ebay was selling them for around $380 shipped but I don't think he does any more, wish I would have gotten a set for the bump as well.

Truck looks good, I hope to have the front of mine done over this winter, unfortunately I have to replace the fenders and hood though.

After looking at mine I guess they aren't exact, mine only have 8 holes instead of 12:

They are 17x9 FWIW, but they were available in just about any size.
'68 F150 2wd
'72 F250 2wd Camper Special (400/C6/4bbl)
'64 Galaxie 500 (3524bbl/57K miles)
'92 Grand Marquis (mostly stock 4.6L)
'97 F150 (heavily modded 5.4L)
'48 F1 (Flat 6)
'51 F3 (Flat V8 )
'56 F350 (engineless)

right now i am working on the heater. you can see the heater project and how i made a big mess to clean up in this post- ill post pics of it finished in this thread also so you can see how it looks.

this weekend is going to be love your truck weekend  :drive: for my truck because i am replacing brake pads because mine like to lock up, I am also going to try putting the second mirror on ( i have to fill the previous wholes in the door and drill a smaller whole in it.), I will try to fix the lazy blinker, And i will hopefully visit the PO to get the whole under dash heater unit that i saw in his garage when i was helping him move. ill let you know how this all goes.

oh and i might buy some stuff from LMC like a glovebox and a dome light cover. I should also go cd player shopping. and then i will need an antennae also.

man i wish i was old enough for the junkyard!!! that will be where i go for my b day!
