Snaggletooth 69 F350 Comes home.
Well I brought Snaggletooth home today and it gets the last of the brakes done and the body work starts.
My local machine shop say he has had great luck getting 360s with the backwards 105 on them to reach 4.25 bore. So the motor is going to see him and be tested. If so it is going to be my next 380 by resleeving and boring to 4.25 then destroking to 3.35 with the rods being longer by .1 to 6.64. That gives me 1.8 rod to stroke ratio keeping sidewall friction down to nothing. 9 to 1 cast pistons or hyper pistons, Power Beast cam
The NP 435 is coming out for rebuild and the rear pinion seal is getting replaced.

The 240 is a damn good engine. My Dad's 69 LWB F100 had one. Stock with 800 lbs of hay and 2 horse in a trailer behind went up a pass in the Colorado Rockies in second. You could hear my Dad cuss in in Denver 80 miles away with that stock 240.
He got home and I put on an Offy dual Port Manifold and 600 Holley. Same horses, same pass, 1000 pounds of hay and third gear to the top. From a 240 that turned 18 in the quarter to a Fire breathing 240 that turned 15s with the tailgate down and 16s with it up for 280 dollars.
Some days I wish my 360 was a 240.
Now you can do the same for 550.00

That engine is a good one. Massive torque not a racer but a puller.
My 71 that pulled Snaggletooth home got the same mileage with Snaggletooth on the back as it did empty for the same miles.

Well I had to cut the fender in two to get at some of the rusted bolts. I still am fighting some parts off. The truck will not fit in the garage by 2 feet and the HOA is having a fit so I might be taking it to a Storage yard where I can work on it.

Now for the real mess the Freeze plugs on the pass side are a mess. Two rusted out and the Center one is gone.
My hedman header what a story! The Driver side is Hedman the passenger side is a Shorty Black Jack. That explains the reason I am always fighting the exhaust leaks on the Pass side.
#1,2 & 4 are rich as all get out #3 with the vacuum ports on them has a normal looking exhaust so the intake manifold has a leak internally at the head or the vacuum ports up on top of that runner has a leak somewhere.

Re: re: Snaggletooth 69 F350 Comes home.
Well if I can find a storage place since I got the bad news I am going to restore all the body one way or the other and turn the engine into a de-stroked 380 for a different trick. The freeze plugs are giving me hell. Eventually I plan on fuel injection and a 5 speed tranny. It is a good truck but was neglected by the former owner. I did a lot of Band Aid as I started getting back on my feet after my last corporate layoff. So it is not the Band aid that caused this it is the mickey mouse of the Former owner. I plan on getting the bed replaced. It is steel right now but I am going to build an aluminum one.Manny wrote:I take it by that the fenders aren't in all that great of shape huh?? re: Snaggletooth 69 F350 Comes home.
SO to build the 380 you take a 105 block with the thick walls punch it out to 427 bore???? then take, and put a 332 crank in the motor. Is that how it's built?? I only ask i don't have my books in front of me to check the specs on it

Take a 105 to 4.25 and put a 3.35 custom crank in it. I don't know what the stroke in a 332 is. Well the good thing is my block has real thick cylinder walls by the lack of spacing between cylinders I can see that through the Freeze plug holes.Manny wrote:SO to build the 380 you take a 105 block with the thick walls punch it out to 427 bore???? then take, and put a 332 crank in the motor. You know where the 352 casting is by the water pump. Well some blocks have a 105 right there these were heavier cast blocks with thicker walls and higher nickel content. If i'm not mistaken i think they were cast in mexico in the 70's like 360's mainly?? I got a 75' 360 105 block along with my 250 when i bought it.rjewkes wrote:i'm sorry what does 105 refer to is that a casting number for something special?

re: Snaggletooth 69 F350 Comes home.
Well as the story unfolds I got one metal plug in and 2 rubber ones. The Header (Pass side) is getting worked on as I type this. It had 3/16s of an inch warp from front to back and different cylinders had problems of warped faces. The block is fairly smooth. So I bought some Steel Epoxy in a tube today from Carquest along with Red High Temp epoxy and some all thread.
The all thread is to make studs for the bottom of the center two ports. The Epoxy is to build the ports up on the Header picts below.
Then in goes the Felpro gasket and the red RTV after the epoxy sets firm.
New Starter power cable going in today. This is just temp fixes so I can drive it to the Storage yard. There I will hang the inner fender panel and the Fender.
