collapsable engine hoist

Guys dont buy one of those collapseable engine hoists from harbor frieght. while the quality is ok for the weekend mechanic, the boom isnt long enough to pull and engine out of a bumpside!!! unless your in the mood to take off 1/2 of the nose!! we pulled a engine out of a 93 firebird and ended having to pull the front nose off to get it out!!!

It looks like its good for pulling a front wheel dr car ok.. but the boom isnt long enough!! but they do make one that collapses witha longer boom, that might do the job..

Its not collapsible but I have 2 of these

I've beat the snot out of them, towed them like trailers through fields, lifted car bodies high enough to back trucks under them, pulled engines out of 4x4's. Lifted FE's with the boom WAY OUT in the 1/2 ton setting. lifts about 9 feet at the hook

With the boom and legs in, they aren't that much bigger then a collapsible if you tip them onto their back.

That's what I've got as well, and I've used the heck out it...money well spent IMO.

the one i bought is on sale for 99 bucks, it was good for pulling my intake, i should have read the fine print, on boom legnth.

my buddy wants to buy it i think its gone...

I have a fold-up one like that, and it's going on 8 or 9 years old now. Pulled MANY engines from bumps and on up to F-600 size trucks. You do have to chain the engine close, tho.
Mine's even been tipped over with an FE hanging off the end (and fully extended). had to do a little work on it after that, but it still works just fine...

Yup the full sized Non-collapsible "Cherry Picker" is the only way to go for the average Guy.

I don't remember who made it, but you can buy an engine hoist with legs that fold up AND have an extendable boom on it.

Have to remember who had it and see who made it..
