tranny shift?

Post by hotrod ford »

so as i finished up the packing on my speedo cable and removed my frame gas tank today i noticed that both bolts going from my tranny to tranny mountwere just barely in the holes. so i reinstalled them and cleaned up around the truck. now ive had this truck now for about 4-5 weeks and sfifted just fine. now with the tranny tightened down it shifts hard now. even at a stop light when i let off the gas to go it shifts hard. WHAT IS THE DEAL? :?

why would it bind? is there supposed to be a spacer between the mount and the tranny? its weird that when it got tight that it started to shift hard. :hmm:

it may have been in the wrong position when it was tighttened down. thats all i can think of. there should be a slight distance it can move side to side it the crossmember that could allow it to move slightly. unless there is another reason the trans isn't getting proper support.

ok, so i loosened the bolts and went for a ride. from a complete stop and letting the brake off the truck engaged fine but felt a little hesatation during shifting. came back and tightened them back down. went again. now from a stopped position and letting off the brake engaged hard but excelerated fine. could it be when i tighten the boltd down that the tranny is getting pulled down to far? :hmm:

i guess it could be the mount is worn some and making it shift hard. does it want to grind when shifted or does it just hard to push it into gear?

so i had my wife go and sit in the truck. i laid on the ground and had her to run a cycle through the shifter. i laid on the ground and watched the tranny and rear. every time she went into drive i saw the hard shifting was coming from the rear end not from the tranny. now what?

man. tran or automatic? i think someone rebuilt it wrong or it needs a rebuild. being loose just lowers the effect becuase it has room to flex.

coming from the rear end. how is the carrier bearing and the ujoints? that is my first thought. my second thought would be the rear end bearings.

they look fine. they have your usual wear but nothing major. while the truck was in nuetral i checked the drive shaft by the rear. i could move it back and forth. not alot, but im not sure how much movement is allowed either.
