Got a free AOD tranny

Post by 1968flareside »

Ok, so what numbers do I need to pull off of the case to identify this tranny?

It was bolted to a 302, which is what I have in my '68 SWB flare side 2wd. I currently have a C4 bolted in that needs some love.

Is this a simple swap? Do I need to change the yoke? Length of driveshaft? Location of crossmember? Tranny mount? Torque Converter? Linkage? Ease of rebuilding or get it to a pro? (I'm definitely not a transmission guru)

I'm sure there is someone out there that has a great deal of experience or information on this swap.

Thanks in advance!

Swap is simple. Unbolt C4 bolt in AOD.

The rear member might need to be moved alittle but not sure.

The driveshaft will probably need to be shortened a little cause the AOD is about 2-3 inches longer than the C4.

You need to use the torque converter for and AOD and if you are in doubt about the tranny take it in.

Also these trannies need to have the TV cable hooked up and adjusted correctly or you will burn it up in no time.
