Dana 70 axle ratio

Post by RedneckTexan »

Is the axle ratio stamped on the axle somewhere? I've found the model, serial no, and us pat number on it but I can't find the ratio. the vin code says "27" "Dana 70 4.10 open differential" but my rear-end has been swapped with a junkyard rear so now I'm stumped :hmm: :dk:

Axle ratios were never stamped on the housing, since the same housing was used for all available ratios. Pop the rear cover off and either count the teeth or look on the side of the ring gear, where the ratio will be stamped.

If i remember right...

The numbers stamped into the ring gear will be...
46-13 = 3.54
41-11 = 3.73
41-10 = 4.10
41-09 = 4.56
39-08 = 4.88
41-08 = 5.13

The numbers represent the number of teeth on the gears. Not the ratio.

Good luck, if you find a center section that looks like a great big castle nut...
you got a power-lock.
