Last Fling 'Til Spring Show - West Point, NE

Post by FORDification »

Being as I'm also the webmaster and 'official photographer' for the Road Gems Car Club, I thought I'd post this here:

The Last Fling 'til Spring Car Show is the largest single-day auto show in the country and is coming up on September 19, 2004. There is an average of 600-700 cars, trucks and motorcyles from all over the Midwest who fill up 10-12 city blocks of West Point's Main Street. There is live music, a 2-day swap meet, arts and crafts show, vendors with music, automotive memorabilia/collectibles and great food. This show is the HOME of the Monster Trophies, which range from 4'-6' tall...and there are over 350 trophies handed out each year!

CLICK HERE to see an aerial shot I took at last year's show from a fire department ladder truck at last year's show. (This shot was taken at the far end of the show, so it's not as crowded, but it was the closest we could get the ladder truck for the aerial shot. Most of the action was taking place farther up the street.)

For more information, visit http://www.roadgems.com . It would be great to get some vintage Ford trucks here. Normally there are only a half-dozen or so Fords, and normally NO '67-'72 trucks. We need to change that!

Mark: Are you going to make it up here for the show this coming weekend? Since I'm the official photographer for the car club, I'd say your chances of getting shots of your truck on the Road Gems' website would be pretty good! ;)

Well, the big show is on Sunday...I've been recruited to help with the judging, so in addition to spending the day taking pics and notes for the Road Gems' website, I'll be helping judge cars, though I won't know what class until I show up. I'm hoping it's something in the '60-'70s since that's what I really know and love, but we'll see. Anyway, all next week I'll be spending most of my spare time processing pictures for their website, so I might not be online as much as I'm used to. I'll post links to the picture pages when they're up, just so you can all take a look.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman! I'm answering this post because Mark just popped in at my place to say hi and mentioned he'd posted this. He's entering his crewcab in this years car show, and mentioned that there's a couple bumpsides parked along road coming in with For Sale signs in the windows. I'll be hitting the car show route in a little while...it's nice that the end of the show route is only 2 blocks from my house...and I'll be getting some good close-up shots of various things to be used for reference.

I designed the Road Gems Car Club website about 7-8 years ago and have maintained it since, but after the 2005 show I decided it was time to bow out, since my other obligations weren't allowing me to spend the time on it that it needed. Someone else took over updating their website last year (2006), but I did take all the pics of the show for their website. However, this is the first year that I'll be just a spectator...I'm not involved with anything. I was asked to be a judge a couple days ago, but I declined, since I just wanted to take it easy.

I'll post some pics later on, especially of Mark's crewcab, since if this year is like every other year, his bumpside will be the only one entered out of the 500-600 vehicles that normally show up.
