What is the real story on these transmissions?

Post by spartman »

I am thinking about putting a ford SROD 3 speed + OD transmission in my truck.

I have read various stories stating anything from these are okay transmissions to they are best used as paperweights.

This transmission will live behind a 240 six banger in a F-100 with a 3.70 rear.

This truck isn't going to be a tow rig, although it may haul a car or tractor or a small trailer once or twice a year.

This should work as well as the old Ford 3.03 that it had at one time right?

Should work fine if it's in good shape. More bang for the buck might be the M5R2 though.

I guess the biggest thing for me now is I can get one from my favorite yard for 50 bucks.

They don't have anything newer than about 85-86 so far at least in ford.
