my first tool set :-)
i finally got my first tools . i have always used my dads tools because he has lots because he was a mechanic for a long time. but now iv got my own . its nice having it all together like it is because now i dont have to make 20 trips to the truck and to the the garage again looking for the right sized socket or whatever i might need. i just take it all with me (well, the basics at least. but thats all i ever use anyways)
now all i want tool wise is a ... welder, angle grinder, cherrypicker, a car jack, cordless drill, compressor, paint booth, and a shop!
here is a picture of the tool set

You can't for get the nice big rolling tool box like I have If you ever get a angle grinder be really careful with it. I had one run up my leg. I had to cut my pants off to get free. Other day I was using a taco blade thats just the welders way of saying cut off wheel. It got twisted a little and it went right out of my hand and jumped over my leg. If it woud of got my leg I might not have one right now. I've been really lucky. If you want a paint booth get you some pvc pipe and make the frame. Get you a tarp and put over it. At the gourd put the tarp under the frame that way nothing is on bare gourd. Get you a box fan and make a place in the tarp where the fan can fit but make sure the tarp can fasen to the fan. With the fan turn it where the fan is blowing out. Thats a home made one I have done. Any ways good looking tools

Yeah, angle grinders are great time-savers, but you definitely need to be careful. I had a wire-wheel attachment in mine one day while stripping paint, and it caught the edge of a body panel and turned vampire on me!
It got wrapped up in my sweatshirt, and I had to tear my shirt just to get it to loosen it's grip around my neck.
(I told my wife that my girlfriend got a little carried away.)

re: my first tool set :-)
What brand are those tools?
One thing I realized in my 30 years of buying tools is DON'T BUY CHEAP TOOLS.
I always remember once bing broke down on the side of the road with my first semi I bought, and I had a $15.99 socket set in the tool box, and laying under the truck, and socket after socket snapping, and my knuckles were all bloody, and I never was able to get it fixed.
A $300.00 service call, for a job I could have fixed myself, taught me a lesson I never forgot.

Ryan,
Nice looking first set of tools!
One thing I believe in for sure...you can never have enough tools!
Keith, that was one nasty grinder incident. I've had right angle drills bite, take me for a ride while forcing my trigger finger to hold it on before.
Safety first for sure!

I have had that happen many times. My legs hands arms. And oldschoolrods is right whereing a full face shield. If your using a wire-wheel the wire will come off and poke you in the eye. Most of the time I don't where gloves or long sleeves or a shield or even ear plugs. But the past 5 times my ears have been bugging me so I got some ear plugs and a face shield. angle grinders are nothing to play with. In a way a torch is safer then the angle grinders torch will just burn you grinder will cut ever thing off

they are called "performance tools". yeah, they dont sound that great just from the name. my dads work sells them and he asked about them. they were on the computer for 100.00 (might of been marked wrong on the computer) but my dads boss let him have them for $40. they may not be the best, but i only do little things to my truck like maybe replacing stereo/heater-ac rebuild/fixing random stuff. nothing that would require alot of force. when my dad and i work on something that requires force, like a big project, then we use his tools because he has the really nice stuff.
like, he has these nifty ratchet wrenches that help alot.
im happy with what i have though!

Hey we all started where you are at, 30 years from now you will have 2 or 3 of everything, it is a guy thing.1971ford wrote:they are called "performance tools". yeah, they dont sound that great just from the name. my dads work sells them and he asked about them. they were on the computer for 100.00 (might of been marked wrong on the computer) but my dads boss let him have them for $40. they may not be the best, but i only do little things to my truck like maybe replacing stereo/heater-ac rebuild/fixing random stuff. nothing that would require alot of force. when my dad and i work on something that requires force, like a big project, then we use his tools because he has the really nice stuff.

For the price you got a good deal.
For normal use any tool works ok, it is when you go into putting a breaker bar on a tool to break loose a rusted bolt, or use it on a impact, that is when you need a top quality set.
I went thru 4 Craftman screw drivers in one week removing stainless steel screws from the GH truck, the plastic handels kept breaking off. So even when you think you are buying quality lately, it is still junk.
I also went thru 2 craftsman grinders in a week on another project.
