Bump trailer w/pics

thats not bad. The main thing is to make it so that when you want to back up sharp enough, you don't make it jack-knife before it has to.
I built one that would actually go under the bumper of the truck without hitting. Needed a drop hitch to do that, tho.

For storage, your new trailer will work OK for the camper. I'm just against using it to go down the hiway...

for just moving it i don't see a problem but freeway speeds may do it in but then it sounds like you only want it that way for ease of moving.

What are you going to do with the rear end differential and the rear drum brakes?

It would be cool to put a surge piston on the front of the bump trailer so that the drum brakes still worked. It would take a little bit of calculation to make sure you had the right cylinder size. Extra braking power never hurts, especially with our Bumps!

It seem that I would have to mount an electric master cylinder or something...
I honestly don't have a clue how to set something like that up...
But would love to do it.

The bump trailer started life as a '71 F-250 Camper Special...
The bed is from a Ranger XLT model and was swapped before I got it...

I bought the '71 as a parts truck to restore my '68 Camper Special...

The '71 was Prairie Yellow and Wimbleton white, and the box was blue and white.

I paid $500.00 for the '71 and drove it for a few months before parting it out.
It came with everything, power disc brakes, auto trans, power steering.
It ran good but leaked oil and tranny fluid pretty bad.
I paid $1295.00 for the '68 20 years ago.
It had 1200 miles on a fresh 390 and np435 4-speed.
Everything on it is manual... brakes, steering, trans.
I am in process of swapping the power stuff from the '71 onto the '68.
In addition, I picked up a nice after market air conditioning unit for it.
It should be a really sweet ride when I get done.

No worries...
just a note... I figured that I got the '71 F-250 CS for right at 1000 reais with the taxes and title transfer..
It was in pretty rough shape.. the engine ran good, but leaked oil really bad... I think it had a bad rear main seal.
I'd have to put a quart of oil in just to start it...
The tranny (c-6 auto) also leaked tranny fluid and left a puddle every where I went... I had to buy ATF by the gallon.
It's no wonder that when I drilled the lock outta the underbed tool box and got it open, the only thing there was ATF and some wooden blocks.
I'm pretty sure that was from the front seal.
It would have taken alot to really get it road ready, even thought it did run good, it was really only good for parts.
I got a lot of good parts from it... well worth the price I paid for it.
Parts that came off of the '71 that are going on my '68

Power steering
Power disc brakes
Oil cooler
Front and rear stabilizers
Windshield
Rear window slider
Driver's side door (the main reason I bought the truck)
(The driver's door came with a spot-light)

Other parts
Running 390/HP with Edlebrock intake and Carter AFB carb
C-6 tranny (needs front seal and pan gasket)
Replacement radiator (I'm probably gonna use it)
I think it is a 4 core whereas the one in the '68 now is a 3 core.
All the factory nuts and bolts I need for repairs.
Spare wiring harness
Passenger side door (I might put it on the '68 as well, it looks to be in a little better condition than the one on it now.

Then of course, there's the Bump trailer that I'm making outta the bed and frame...
I could probably sell it for what I paid for the whole truck...
But have no plans to do that...
I wanna paint it to match the planned paint job for the '68 CS.
I'll probably practice the Rustoleum w/a roller technique on the trailer before trying it on the truck.

Eventually, The '68 CS, the bus and the trailer are all going to be painted the same.
Rustleum Harbor Blue with a white top...
Then, I wanna do a red spash job on the front so it fades back like flames...

I think that should look pretty cool...
