update on 71 4x4

Post by cathynkeith »

As most of you know my pride and joy is my 69, the 71 is kind of a step child  , she only gets worked on when I'm fed up with the 69 thats back in the tranny shop for the 4th time.

Any way, I fixed the pesky intake leak and painted the alum. intake black to match the engine, cleaned up the valve covers and just cleaned it all a bit.
I install the red/black door panels, they brighten it up abit. Monday I look for a seat to replace the 99 cheby set the po installed, looks cool but sits too high.

My photo bucket link below shows everything.

You know the 71 is a nice truck, it just seems lack power compared to the 69

It turns out the tranny has been starving for fluid. I had paid someone to install it for me after the Art Carc c-6 gave up (that was Art Carrs fault)
The installer of the AODominator used small elbow fittings to make everything look nice. Turna out there was not enough fluid flowing through the bb size holes.

Anyway we new this last time but the shop said I would be able to drive it the 65 miles home with no problem......well it did not make it, it heated up and did internal damaged. I did not realize it a firts, I drive the truck so little, mostly around town. The problem showed us on a 100 mile road trip.

No I have the correct fittings, pretty braided hoses and an external Moroso cooler/filter with the cooler in the radiator and a trans temp guage. The shop warranteed the trans and I have decided to go back with a 9" 2800 stall instead of the regular size 2500/ The origional art carr c-6 had a converter like this and the truck was plain nasty, I could do a donut in its own circle from a standing stop without the brake. So this week I should get it back!
