Round 1, 71 4x4 SB 4x4 (dial up warning)

Post by My427stang »

I have about 7 months until I move to DC for a year, and the truck will unfortunately have to go in storage (but it will be a nice, dry, and probably expensive storage this time, I cant afford to let it get damp again)

Anyway, I pulled the carb and fuel pump to rebuild them both, found a all my 35+ yr old fuel lines came apart after sitting for 12 yrs

So the game plan is to get the brakes working and the truck running, clean it up nice and get it ready for storage the right way this time. I sure wish I had time to just get it done, but unfortunately its going to be a little emergency care and better storage

Some current pics so you guys can watch the transformation

Enjoy!

Its the third solid start :) I have rebuilt this one twice before since the early 80's

In my intro post I gave the whole story, but me and this old girl have lots of history

Matter of fact many "firsts" happened in this truck, you name it, it happened there (or in the bed of the truck even) LOL

At 39 now, I decided its time to bring her back to the old glory, again

80's Mustang, it actually fit the truck pretty well. I never made it functional way back when, but who knows, maybe I will this time around

BTW here is its stablemate :)

Man, they both look good. I like to hear the history behind these trucks...I read your original posting about it, good stuff.

That is one clean Mustang!

427Stang,

I remember doing the same thing with storing vehicles when I was in the Navy, (been a long time ago now).

Make sure you yank the battery.

I too like the Stang, (I had a 1970 coupe years ago).
What's the story on the engine in it?

The Mustang FE is a 63 427 block, .047 overbore, with a SCAT 4.25 stroke crank and BBC rods for 489 cid.

I also run ported Edelbrock heads, an RPM intake and a 1000 Holley HP series carb and a 5 speed behind it

It runs very strong, but I didn't build it as a high RPM drag racer. The cam is big for 390 standards, but peaks at 5700 or so in the 489.

I did it that way so it would have plenty of torque in 5th at 1700 RPM (65 mph or so) and man did it work out nice.

Sounds plenty rowdy but pulls like nobody's business right off idle
