Uhaul and me

been awhile since I posted an update.. well the update aint to good.. as far as the body work got..I've been chipping away at it in the spare few hours aweek I can manage..the house finally got done being sided so I figured to have plenty of time to work on my truck and get it over pauls house for the floor pans and body work..this past week I been following a short wheel base frame on ebay..well after a few phone calls and asurances I placed a bid on it.. here is the link..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0172847312
so the whole reason I even bothered with looking at it was because mine was hit in the front and the P.O had shimmed the hell out of the radiator support and never said a word about it..plus the 460 he put in had the passenger pan and he cut a hole in the crossmember to drain the oil.. so the frame wasnt to bad but bad enough and it was annoying the heck out of me that it wouldnt be "right" so when I came across this frame on ebay that had been sandblasted and painted..well it was just what was looking for. when the auction ended at 110.00 it was perfect.. well my first complaint is ebay listed it at 220 miles away.was really 323..still when I emailed the guy I found out he had alot of the parts I have been looking for, a column, front disk brake swap and rear disk brake kit for it..I figure..man I can pass it up. so I made arrangements to go tomorrow(day after auction ended) to pick it all up.Now I no longer have a pickup for a daily driver. which is the reason Ive been trying to get the bump sorted out. I miss having a truck! S oMy dad offeres to go with me and says we wil ltake thier mountaineer. Great!! so I call Uhaul and make reservations to get an open trailer. Figured a 6x12 foot would work with a few feet hanging over. I told them the mountaineer had a class 2 hitch..guy ay so prob..perfect! they will call me back in an hour or so to tell me which uhaul to pick the trailer up on friday(tonight). this was wednesday. They never call back. I call Thurs. of you didnt give credit card so they didnt have it in system..well the idiot didnt ask for one because you were supposed to call me up wit hthe info of where I had to go ..ok sorry..we can get you one here(15 miles away) ok I'll be there what tiem you close..7 pm.. ok be there at 6. BTW do you have the receiver end for a class two hitch on a mountaineer..ya know the stock on that comes with the truck.. umm hold on let me check..(few mins go by..guy comes back) yup we got the smaller receiver end and the ball to go with the hitch. Great! be there at 6. 530 friday I wait for the wife and baby to get loaded up in mountaineer.baby has a fit wants to hang out with grandmom..but we goign to get dinner after I get trailer..shove bottle in her mouth and off we go. Get to Uhaul at 5:55. walk in tell em who I am. col fill this out..thank you..ok it will be 39.95..hey I need a receiver end..oh yeah thats right you asked about thet. guy shows me the balls and hitches and all that stuff.. I say um buddy..its a class two hitch..smaller then the 2x2..oh.it is? ummmmm well Sir Uhaul cant rent you a trailer with a class 2 hitch..you must have a class 3 hitch to rent one from us.. WTF you told me it was good to go..um..I must not have under stood what you meant by a smaller class 2 hitch that wasnt 2x2". Hey numbnuts..you got the class 2 part didnt you..oh..Im sorry sir.. well Uhaul wont let you rent a trailer if you have a class 2 hitch.. I ought bounce you off the....never mind..can you just sell me the end with a ball..for a 2 5/16. um yes Sir..but our trailers dont take 2 and 5/16 balls.. :x listen there hammer head.. you also wont let me tow your trailers with a class two hitch so can ya sell me the freakin ball and end so I can go borrow my cuz trailer..umm I guess so..WTF you mean you guess so.. um Sir sure..lets see we have this adapter..its for the smaller hitches that adapts it to 2 inch ..perfect..ok gimme a 2 and 5/16 ball..ok..her Sir..ty there scissor chest.. ok Sir let me ring you up.. ok.. Alright Sir thats the adapter , the 2 5/16 ball and how many days do you want the trailer for??.WTF..um listen kid..take your diapers out your ears for a second..didnt you say I can use a uhaul trailer wth a class two hitch accordign to Uhaul rules.. Um yes Sir..So why the heck are you asking me how many days will I be taking the trailer for if you arnt goign to let me take the trailer???! Ohh sorry Sir I wasnt thinking.. Gee ya think.. ok let me ring this up.. ok Sir the amount it 45 doller..please swipe your card.. oh and btw that adapter says not for twoing.. its just for cooler racks and bike racks..  :x :bdh: :hn: :bdh: Kid?.. yes Sir..are you trying to make me reach over that counter and knock you across the noggin with this here adapter?.um Sir I dont under stand what your gettign angry about I only.ohhh...... Im sorry Sir.. I wasnt thinking.. You think? never mind ..forget it.. cancel the order.. ok Sir.. do you still want the trailer? ( I look at him with the images of his head being ripped off his shoulders and shoved clear up his butt).. are you going to let me tow it with a class two hitch?.well Sir Uhaul say we cannot rent out a trailer ...shut up kid..
So I go home drop off the mountaineer with no trailer and have to call the guy who is expectign me tomorrow to pick up the frame..to tell him ..hey uhaul is a bunch of ninnys..and I will get back to you sat or sunday when I can find out how the heck I can pick it up. Im just glad the guy was cool about it. if I'm lucky I might be able to get there sunday..if not hoping for next weekend..then I can really get to updating this post. BTW Uhaul Sucks for those that dont know already..[/url]

well today I got to work on my truck for a bit. After all the B.S with uhaul I had some of the weekend freed up to do alittle tinkering. first off I took out the drivers windows, the back window and windshield. I was surprised how easy I was able to get them out with out breaking any. Thanks Fordification!! I cleaned the channels up a bit and started sanding away.Fire way is halfway done and the cowl almost finished. pretty much all that is left is the drivers door, half the roof and the back of the cab.
I've been going back and forth about with rust prevenitive to use and after a few emails rustbullet was the first to reply. They even sent me a video clip of a 65 mustang they are doing. Got to say I was much impressed by the rustbullet product and I am going to order some tonight or tomorrow. I really like the fact I can paint the whole entire truck with it then paint right over it.That was pretty much the biggest selling point for me.
The spray on bedliner came in on friday so as soon as I get the rustbullet sprayed in the bed thats going in.
As far as the frame goes. I should be able to run down to virginia this coming weekend. I went to wally world and bought a hitch for my dads ranger. Its costing me alot more to get there then I thought but at least this will be knocked out. The guy says he has a steering column with tilt, the front diskbrake set up and even a rear disk brake set up for my truck that he will let go for around 300.00 plus he got a bunch of other stuff, even fiberglass fenders! where was the auction 2 weeks ago when I orders a set  Anyway heres some pics of the progress so far.

Well, I just got back from a nearly 800 miles round trip to virginia , to pick up a new frame and a disk brake set up and steering column. After all the B.S with uhaul they got it set and rented me the wrong size trailer friday night. so instead of a 6x12 I had a 4x8 trailer. to the frame was strapped to the rails on top of it all the way home but we got it here. Trip cost me more then I really was hoping but I can say for the most part I am satisfied. The frame had been sandblasted and painted, and I got that from the ebay auction for 110.00. I found the vin number and its off a 67 swb. The disk brake stuff was there but of course like an idiot I just had to forget something. I forgot to ask him about the drag link and tie rod  So of course now I am on the hunt for those..hoping I can get new. Calipers and rotor looks good..maybe alittle scotch bright on them to clean them up a bit. As far as the brakes stuff I did get, the rotors, calipers, springs, spindles, ibeams pretty much everything but the drag link, tie rod,and the master cyclinder and lines. The steering column turned out to be off a 79 I think, has tilt steerign and cruise control on the wheel.. need to find out about what else I would need to get that working. Also picked up the rear leaf springs which had also been sandblasted and painted with new poly bushings, along with 4 new shocks. Cost me all together around 450.00 including the frame. So tomorrow when I unload the trailer I will snaps some pics.

I cant find the pictures of it the day I brought it home, so while I hunt them down I'll start off with what I got..

Never mind the photos of the truck, post the photos of the wife...!

Well its to dark to take any pictures, but the truck is pretty much stripped and all that is holding me up is the front bolts for the cab mounts. The driver side is refusing to come out so I keep yelling at it and occasionally it gives in, at this rate tomorrow its either coming out or getting cut off. I plan to have the cab on the trailer to send it off to body work. Woohooo  Wife has a few choice comment about all the truck parts in the yard, but after the cab goes I'll clean that up to make her happy before I start swapping all of the stuff over to the painted frame.Hoping to order the tierods, and drag link for the 76 front suspension on monday, that way I can have it all together and hopefully the engine back in before the cab is ready to go on. Thanks to alot of guys here, I got my inner fenders, the right 460 mounts, the right oil pan and some other choice parts I needed to get this going. Thanks again to everyone that helped get me that stuff

Hey Pipe,

Yeah... I always wanted to build an old school thumperbobber.
In the past I had a 650 BSA...
I wuz gonna chop it, but ended up selling it before I got married.
While I wuz in the USAF.. I had a few differant bikes...
hate to admit it, but I even had a honda.
While I was at Wheeler AFB HI, I had a '76 Sporty heritage...
6" over with a slight rake... jet black emeron, shot guns, solo with a b-pad. I liked it, it was real responsive and nimble. 1000cc w/weber so it wasn't a slouch on power either.
It was cool, until I started hanging with a guy named Tiger Wong.
He'd been the vice pres, of the Frisco chapter of the Angels until he went back to HI and started the Alii MC (chiefs). He took likin' to me and he and his son built a '59 pan rigid, wide glide for me to ride when I wuz with them...
No one was allowed to touch that bike except the 3 of us... it was so sweet
It was black (of course) and had the hawaiian words for "naughty boy" painted on the tank in brite blue...
He always called me "naughty boy"... "u a naughty boy" he'd say.
I played bass in a southern country rock band while I wuz there and used to have a pretty good time with the ladies.
He really wanted me to have that bike, but I was just an E-4 Sgt, and they wouldn't ship it... I couldn't afford to buy the bike from him ($2500) and ship it to the mainland too (another $1000 I think it was).
I had to sell the sporty as well... but not for enought to do that...
I bought the 650 BSA with the money I had left from sellin' the sporty.
After I got married... gettin' another bike took a very low priority.
Now, I wouldn't mind picking up a '68 FLH...
but the prices those bring are way outta my range...
I figure I might be able ta build a limey after I get my '68 CS done...

ahh the dreams of a middle aged man...

Take care bro...

well its been awhile since I had an update, but things have been hetic..still whenever I get the chance I work on the truck. So todays update is after tons of sanding and some body filler and primer the cab is back home again! The sanding part was the worst, the truck had 4 coats of paint on it. Next time I ever do another project ,Im goign to spend the money and get it sandblasted.. anyway heres the pics of the cab, new floors,a cab corner and lots of dings massaged out..

hopefully I can get the frame together enough to get it rolling and set the cab in place and the engine/tranny before it gets to frozen! Will hold off on the bed until it warms up alittle, and hopefully by summer be driving my truck

Hey Pipes...

Man U got that cab lookin' sweet... can't wait to see it back on the frame.

I wish I had a place to do that...
I am just a borrowin' a friends barn for abit to do what I'm doin' with my '68 CS.
I think he's wantin' me to hurry up and get it done.
If I haven't been there for a day or so he makes a comment about it.
It would be one thing if it was a nice warm shop with good lighting...
No, it is a barn, with no heat and bad lighting...
With it getting dark so early and being really cold...
I haven't had much incentive to go over there after work...
But have been over there nearly every Sat and taken a couple of fridays off and spent most of the day there as well... aaarrrrgggg
I am thinking of taking a week off just to finish getting it cleaned up and put back together just to get it outta his barn...
