Royal Purple makes a real good penetrating oil. I had never used it till I was on OverHaulin' and it worked real good. But you pay for the name.

What "Penetrating Oil", forget it!

It's hard enough trying to spell it!Image

I'll just stick to my trusty old Ingersol-Rand Super Duty 3/4" Impact Wrench! I built it from parts when I Ran the Toolroom at the CATERPILLAR Dealer back in the late 80's.

All I got to do is crank up the compressor to oh about 180 psi (11CFM) and I can take off any Nut or Bolt, Rusty or not. Hell it doesn't even matter what direction it's turning! Just a couple "Blap" "Blap's" with The IR and it's done!

Boy is it ever done...

That GM stuff is Aero Kroil under the GM name. At least thats what the guys we get Kroil told us. So it's a good chance it is the best stuff out there but like everything else that GM done right. They got it from somebody else.

Kroil is some good stuff, but I can't find here in Kali. We use a product Mopar is marketing for to lube the exhaust valve (EFE) Works good let it soak tap w/ a hammer remove :)

Kroil

Post by Zeke71250 »

I went to the Kano Labs (Kroil) website and ordered one of their freebie newsletters. The newsletters arrived and were pretty much a laundry list of different ways people have used Kano products.

A few days later, Kano sent me a little postage paid card to fill out. They're gonna send me a free can of AeroKroil to try - if I like it, I send 'em $8.50. If I don't like it, I write 'CANCEL' on the bill and send it back to them... but get to keep the Kroil... Pretty hard to lose on a deal like that.

I hope I can find a couple bolts that are rusted almost identically so I can put Kroil up against PB. Once we get my son's graduation party out of the way, I can start taking the Ford apart... I'm sure there will be plenty of spots where pentetrating oil will be needed.

The stuff with the GM part number is probably "Chevy safe". I sprayed some PB Blaster on a chevy once and I haven't seen it since!! I think it dissolved, kinda like putting gas in a styrofoam cup? :D

I've used just about everything, PB blaster, liquid wrench, kroil, buster, knocker loose, military panther piss (VV-P-216B Ty- 1), chem tool, muriatic acid, electrolysis soda baths, coca-cola, chemtrec silicone spray, and candle wax.

I always go for the PB Blaster when I'm working on something thats been sitting in a field for 20 or 30 years.

Candle wax is a close second
Old trucks, like old computers are more fun. Is the web really fun? No but its utilitarian. Spitfire, Wildcat, Fidonet, QWK and door games were FUN. The new truck works and its pretty, but compared to a bumpside or dentside, it just isn't fun.

they have a new one called crc freeze-off?? i think it is. works like the wart remover ya spay it on and it freezes the rust right out i guess water on a cold day might work just as well.

not to be confused with compound W then again it may work the same :P

At my shop we use two different penetrants. The first is called Buster which a member had mentioned which is from a company called IBS. The second is Zep 45nc. Both aren't available at your local parts store however many shops use these. The advantage to the buster is the thick foam which can cling to the part for a considerable amount of time. Plus it's ability to displace water is quite impressive. If you fill a styrofoam cup up w/water than spray the Buster on top in a few minutes the bottom of the cup will melt. The Zep is good stuff too yet it doesn't displace the water like the Buster. Both are great products however I don't believe that they are available to the general public.
