A good day junkyarding...Day 1

Post by FORDification »

Well, I got to spend my birthday today going through area junkyards all day...from several different towns around here. Since Mary and I were going to go out afterwards for dinner and a movie to celebrate our two-year anniversary afterwards, she came along, and sat in the truck and read/slept the whole time I'm out crawling around junk cars. (Thanks Mary!)

Anyway, today was just the scouting mission. We're going back tomorrow with the toolbox to actually remove parts. Today was just to find the trucks and parts I needed, since it was going to take a while going through multiple yards. I didn't really find anything that I personally needed....OK, a few things....but the other stuff I pick up will get sold to finance my truck project.

I took a bunch of pictures and will post them to a webpage as soon as I get them processed...give me about an hour or so, but they will be up tonight. There were a couple really cool things you'll want to check out....like the '68 F250 motorhome!

Also, a little while ago we were discussing the various prices being charged by various U-Pull-Its. I got a copy of the price list from the local big U-Pull-It, and have posted them here. Take a look....their prices are VERY reasonable. I'm gonna be coming back with a truckload of stuff to sell off. :D

Thanks everyone. Sorry for the delay in getting the page and pictures posted. I'd finished up processing the pics last night and went to try posting them and lost my internet connection. Since it was after 1AM and I was tired with a long day ahead of me today, I just went to bed.

Anyway, the pics are up. CLICK HERE to check 'em out.

Well, I'm off to the showers and then to the shop to put together a toolbox, and then we're on the road! :D

Happy b-day and aniversary. And if you can get chrome from the 72 ranger xlts you find for a reasonable price. i would buy them from you anything beats 700 from the catologs.

oh and a decent gate all the ones local are rusted out. preferably with the ranger xlt trim. and tail light trim.
Oh and lighlty to no rust fenders and 360 or 390 fender badges.
that dash pad if you don't use it i'll take it. And any unlocked bedside door you find.

thanks keith.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

Is that camper labled a 68 a 67? Also it looks like they put a longer column in there to compensate for the driver setting further back. It appears to have a key in the column and not in the dash. Got to admit I have NEVER seen a 67-72 camper conversion :hmm: , neat.

I had it labeled as a '68, but it turned out to be a '69. The steering column was just the run-of-the-mill manual column...but when I returned this afternoon is was already gone! I was kinda ticked because there was a cool factory decal on it that I wanted to grab to scan, but was relieved when I found that whoever snagged the column ripped the decal off and just threw it down, so even though there's a small chunk missing from it, I can scan and post that, hopefully tomorrow.

That motorhome wasn't a backyard conversion, it was definitely a professional job. It looks farther forward because it's been in an accident, and the wood frame of the camper section was completely dryrotted, so it split all to heck and slid forward. I was hoping to jot down the info on the VIN tag but completely forgot, but did notice that the bodystyle on the tag was '84' (cowl & chassis).

Anyway, I grabbed a bunch of good stuff today, but ran out of time to get everything I wanted. I posted a report of the day's adventures along with a couple pics, and hopefully can post some more tomorrow after I get some shots of the day's haul. (I ran out of time before getting any taken this evening.) Just click the link above....I added today's stuff to yesterday's update page.

Keith, those bronco bumper brackets won't work. Unless you want to cut slots in the rear valance panel of the bed. The bumpers however, do fit and I think are the same.
