Been awhile since the last update so here's what we've been working on:

-installed new round style gauges/billet gauge panel (looks cool at night)
-installed new sending units
-installed new antenna
-installed some chrome tie downs for the bed
-got the dome light working
-installed new door jam switch
-installed new switch on the floor for high beams


Goals for this weekend:
-install new speedo cable
-install new steering wheel
-install stereo
-work on headliner

Well, not a bad weekend. Didn't get everything done that I wanted to, but made some decent progress, which inspired me to make some more time hopefully in the next two weeks to get more done. Here's some pics:

-Got the volvo metra kit installed, ran the wiring for the stereo and the speakers.

-Cut the new headliner outline, still need to cut holes for the speakers, paint, and install.

-Got the fuel gauge working... the new float arm was too long, so it was not allowing it to fully extend to 'full' or 'empty' position. After some playing around, removing about 3 inches from the new float arm solved the problem!

Installing the new steering wheel was a fairly simple process (thanks kaptnkaos for all your help with your detailed posts!). When I removed the steering wheel bolt, the old wheel just fell off, no puller or efforts on my part needed.

Installing the new speedometer cable was also a breeze, what a relief to have a working speedometer!

Got the stereo, homemade headliner, and speakers installed. I guess its been a while since I've dealt with aftermarket stereo/speakers... I picked up the JVC stereo at Walmart for $97- it has 200 watts of power, a detachable faceplate, direct plug in for ipod, and a remote . Add to it two Sony 5.25" 4-way speakers, rated for 160 watts-cost $39. So with tax and the metra Volvo kit, about $165-$170. The sound quality absolutely knocked my socks off. Throw in some Credence Clearwater Revival and we're good to go

The headliner is made of pegboard. It wasn't flexible enough to make the bends, so the two ends of the headliner above the doors are plastic lenses for fluorescent lights. Came out better than I expected. I probably would of redone it in black if it weren't for the lens covers. All in all I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Good idea on the headliner. When you said pegboard for headliner, I immediately thought "uhhh that'll look horrible." You proved me wrong. Nice job.

Good choice for the steering wheel. I have the same one in my F100 and have loved it for... well since I put the power steering in last year (13 years with stong arm steering was a little tough).

If you still have a piece of that peg board, why don't you throw it in some water or wet it down for a couple of days and see if you could make it flexable. I bet when it dried, it would be stiff again. Just an idea.
