"72 Under Construction

Post by price2757 »

My '72 Bump. Grabbed the cmera phone and got some shots before the sun came out. Rusty, dented, many different and unknown parts, but it's mine!

Where I dug out the bondo in the bed to get to the rust

This is my first attempt at "fun" project where I get to try and remember all those little things I've stored away in my brain for that "Someday when I get a truck to restore/build..." Well, the someday is finally here. It was a long and busy weekend with a lot of learning, but it was fun. Some more pics:
My first attempt at a serious patch job.

Patched the holes in the roof and where the rusted marker lights were at.

Sprayed the bed.

Except for one spot!

Did a little ding repair on the side.

Hey price2757...

That's lookin' really good...
Have you done body work before?
She looks like the sheet metal is pretty good.
I really didn't see where there was any mass amounts of bondo.
Even from the factory, seam sealer was used to smooth the lines out.
It can be pretty crusty and hard to get out.
The roof gutter has about an 1/8th of inch or so of the stuff in it from the factory. It can be a bugger to get out and cleaned up.
So where in the archives the is tool that Kieth made/purchased that he said made it easier to get out... especially out of the side seams.

Keep up the good and keep the pics comin...

Maybe tomorrow I'll get out and take a close up pic of the rain gutters. They were filled to the top with bondo. It was fun digging it out. Still have more to do but I don't want to accidentally damage the gutter. I figured something was up with the seam on the side of the bed because the bondo had cracked and there was rust stains coming out of the crack. WHen I got that cleaned out it really wasn't that bad. Get money next week so thats when the seam stuff goes back in. Thanks for the tip on the Rust-Mort. Even outside with a respirator it was a powerful smell but I think it's saved the truck for awhile.
Hopefully I can have it together and running good by August. If so, I'll take it to out Family reunion in Ocean City and stop and honk as I go by.

Okay, today was spent sanding and bondo and sanding and bondo.. I suck at mudding drywall, don't know why I thought putting body filler on dents and dings would be easier! I thought I had it done so I primered it. That's when I realized what a sh****** job I did but then this IS a learning project.
I am test fitting my new marker lights from Harbor Freight. $15.

Tomorrow comes the wiring if I can get them set in a way that I like. I'm trying for a ^ pattern.

Those lights look real good on there Price...

That's the same configuration that's on my '68 CS...
They look tough at night when they're all lit up...
How are you planning to wire them up ???
You might need to install a relay, as they should come on with the light switch, just like your tail lights.
