I guess the reason I'm not 100% for flareside is it's appearance.....that is, they almost look like an after-thought. They don't visually match the design of the cab. With a fleetside pickup, you have a complete matching package, but with a flareside, you have a truck front with a cargo box on the back...not quite the same thing. In other words, there are two distinct halves of the truck...the front and the back.
If the bed were to incorporate some of the styling characteristics of the cab, or if the transition between cab and bed was smoother and not so abrupt, it might rate higher with me....but as is, it just doesn't look right.
...but then again, that's just one man's opinion.

Ford was good about the afterthought look. I agree that the bed doesn't really go with the truck style, but then they used a stepside bed from the 50s up through the 70s until they changed the truck completely again in 1980. They also did that in the 61-64? styleside using the previous bed. I think Ford was thinking, hoping the unibody was going to replace the conventional styleside. For what they are, the 67-72 stepsides tend to grow on you.

Lets see, "stepsides" is what pickups looked like up until about ...1957?
Then the modern-style bed made its appearance. Cant really say the bed/cab of a stepside does not have a continuity of style. It's the original and the best

Yes, I think the stepsides go better with the older "rounder" look of the 40's and 50's trucks and earlier. The front of our trucks is so square, I agree with Keith the transition to the bed is a bit odd with the stepside.jzjames wrote:Lets see, "stepsides" is what pickups looked like up until about ...1957?

Just my opinion! All our trucks are great!
