'69 F250 2wd Show Project
I posted the back story and links to the pictures of my 69er in the photo thread, so I won't bore you with that again.
The latest is that I have blown out the who-knows-how-old exhaust manifold gasket and the manifold itself is cracked around the number 4 bolt. So I have no back pressure and it drives like crap.
Tuesday will be the fun day though as all my parts will be delivered. I will set them out and get everything organized and ready, then Wednesday when I get off work I am going to install the new exhaust system.
I have Hooker Competition Headers and Header to tail pipe Hooker exhaust pipes, side exhaust exit, just in front of the rear tires (although I may extend to past the rear wheels. And I have Red Hot glass pack mufflers. 2.5 inch pipes, it should be very nice.
Hopefully Thursday or Friday I can post pics of the new system, I hope it all goes smoothly.

Just stopped by to check up on the forum and see how things around here were going. I am all ready to tackle the exhaust job which I will start shortly.
I was going to start it yesterday but my wifes car blew a couple valves and I had to replace the cylinder head on that (took me 5 hours! Stupid flippin' Hondas!)
Hopefully I will get done with this header job soon and I can post pics later!

As an update, cause I obviously didn't post pics last week..
I got the old exhaust and the manifolds off, and I found out why it was so horrible... 7 of the 16 manifold bolts were broken before I even started. 4 of the 7 have about 1/4 inch of stud sticking out, the others are flush with the mounting brackets.
I don't have the capability to get them out. I have tried, and got one of the 7 to turn about 1/2 a turn then it froze again. I have wd-40'd the hell out of them, soaked them in penetrating oil, but my lack of tools is a problem. I have no air compressor, and no welding equipment. (besides the lack of knowledge to use welding stuff) So my hands and my vice-grip just aren't enough.
Now I don't know what I am going to do. I suppose I will call around tomorrow (Monday) and see if I can find someone to get the studs out. The rest is ready to roll, once I get the broken bits off it will only take about an hour to hang the new pipes.

So blah blah I am slow and lazy and I haven't driven my truck in 2 weeks. GAH!
I decided since I was that far into the motor I was just going to get it all done.
So I ordered new cylinder heads, head gaskets and intake gaskets, new bolts and the regular tune up stuff, cap rotor plugs wires etc etc.
Everything arrived last night, I have removed the old heads and manifolds and slid the headers into their resting spots.
Today will be replacing the starter, replacing the heads and bolting the headers on. With luck I will also bolt ont he exhaust and be able to fire the SOB up to see if I did everything right.
The bad news, I am completely alone on this, have minimal tools it is raining and about 50 degrees. Not to mention I have to be at work at 4:30 in the morning.
But I am killing what is being used as daylight today, so I better get to it!
Wish me luck and hopefully I can post from work tomorrow that I drove the truck there!

I'm confused as for the temp too.
Where did you get the heads and how much did they cost. Sounds like you just bought already rebuilt ones. Do they come w/ new guides and valves? Interested in the info.

Yeah you heard right, 50 five zero... stupid northwest. I wanna go back home to a real state!
Heads were about 340 or something, I don't remember the exact amount, yes new valves rockers, everything. There is a re-builder near here where I got a lot of parts for one of my Intrepids a while ago and decided to give him a call, he had 3 heads for the 360 in and 2 were done being worked on, so I snagged them.
My main thing was the header to head bolt holes, and his were clear. Other than the broken studs in my old heads there is absolutely nothing wrong with them, but now with them out I can drill-tap-die the bolt holes and then I have a good working spare set
I am taking a break from the work now, the rain stopped and the sun came out and now it is muggy as hell and I am running out of sweat.
I have both heads back on, ready to torque the bolts, but the info I am finding says 140 ft-lbs!!! can that be right? for a 360? That's INSANE! I am going to look for a second opinion before I twist those things to 140. Dear God!
the headers are also on and I have my exhaust pipes laid out ready to go, intake is back on save for one rear bolt that is giving me a fit, and everything else is snug. Over all not a bad days work, but I still have about 4 hours of daylight left and I am hoping to be able to crank it up by then.
Basically all that is left is the torque of the bolts, one hose I cut off, and need to replace, and put the pipes and mufflers on, then the plugs and wires and reconnect the battery, then it should be golden.
I will let y'all know!

From the flag I thought you were in TX.
Under $400 for a set of good heads from a quality rebuilder isn't bad. I have a builder down here that will do the same for about the same. You just have to check everything just to make sure (like any machine work).
I don't have my books handy so I can't help you on the torques.

Born and raised in Texas, and that is where my heart is. I am currently stuck in Washington State, where it is wonderful and lovely and full of greatness and awe(did you get the sarcasm?)
I found the torques at 80-90Ft-Lbs and went with those as they sound more reasonable.
Obviously I didn't finish yesterday so I am still without truck, but I am going to get back at it tomorrow. The last 2 intake bolts don't want to seem to fit right, I may have to take it back off and re-seat it or something.
Then I can put the pipes on and drive off into the sunset or whatever

I looked in my Motor's manual on the torque and 80-90 ft/lb is correct for 352-36-390-410 FE's 130-140 ft/lb was for a 428...

I'm not "Brand Loyal" Ford-Chevy-Dodge-Toyota I have them all, one even cross mixed...
If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...

Okay, so I FINALLY got the headers and exhaust on the truck! I will post pictures later when I get off my lazy butt and get them from camera to computer. I have before and after
However I now have another problem and I can't figure it out. The carb is acting funny, gonna post about it in the engines thread.
