Driveshaft fit question
Okay, here's the deal. Ryan and I pulled the 429 and trans out of his 69 F250 and want to put it in his 71F250. The 69 had a single piece drive shaft and the 71 has a two piece drive shaft with carrier bearing. Can I use the one piece driveshaft that came out of the 69? The 69 also has marks on a crossmember indicating that there was once a carrier bearing in it. They also both have Dana 60 rearends. I haven't compared the overall lengths of the two transmission. The one-piece driveshaft is shorter than the two piece. I am hoping the tail housing on the c-6 that goes with the 429 is longer and that it will work.
Thanks,
Thanks,

What are the wheel bases for the 2 trucks. if you use the same 429 trans you will probably need to use the 1 piece drive shaft.

ya it should work without a problem, the only thing is if your using different transmissions the one your putting in might require a different trans crossmember.

Ideally, keep it under 5 feet, but drivelines get into the 5-6 foot range even in production vehicles.
Length doesn't automatically dictate a two piece shaft, but racing (atleast high speed stuff) pretty much makes you take a firmer stance on driveline rules.
From a true desert race perspective neither a 6 foot driveline nor a two piece driveline would be acceptable. The ideal setup would be 60" or less single so that means either a shorter wheelbase or moving the engine back.
