Ok im thinking a little ahead so i can figure this out. Im gonna install a 4 speed in my 70 but no hole exist in hump for the shifter. Has anyone one done this before and if so how should i measure to get it right or just cut big enough hole and then work on a plate to go back over hole and shifter. My truck has a dealer installer under dash a/c and im wondering if that's gonna get in the way or can i bent the shifter after the install to make it clear the a/c.
I don't own a cutting torch so i will have to use a jig saw or something like that to cut hole.
This tranny did not come orig in doner truck so no bolt on plate exist whoever installed it just kinda split the floor open, looks awful, i want mine to look as factory as possile. I will take all suggestions. Thanks!
well im going through the same thing for my 67. You will need the pedal assemballies from a 68-72 truck 67 is different and wont work. To do the floor i havent quite figured how im gonna do it the floor in the 72 has the removalbe hump so i can try to remember to get measurements from it. If you can get your hands on the hump cover you should be able to get the mesurements from it as to how far to cut. Id get some measurements from it but its 50 miles away and i dont want to make you wait that long.
Also will need the bellhousing for your engine all the clutch assmbally and the zbar.
Sorry to make this sound so big but its best to find a donor truck and just grab every thing for it that you need.

Stevec i have the donor truck and all parts except hump cover. My understanding is the t-18 will bolt u to my 302 bell housing. my donor truck is a 67.
yes it should as far as i understand. Ive though about so many different possibilities that i cant keep them straight anymore. This really isnt a hard swamp with a little help and all the parts.
I know there was somone on here that went fromn a c-6 to a np435 recentlly mabye he might chime in here.

All I can say bout it is that I found a '67 about a week ago at the salvage yard with a 4 speed and the hump was still in the truck and had a round hole a little off center i think. I believe it had a "T" something tranny. My '67 has an NP435 and I believe the shifter hole in the hump is square shaped and centered. There is a good chance the truck and hump are still there. I could go grab it for ya but I don't know if i'm gonna be able to go down there this week. I don't know what shipping would cost either.
I wish this would have come up last week. I just put a clutch and rear main seal in and had it all apart. I could have taken picts. These were all I could find. I have a 302 and a t18. These are so you can see how the hump and shifter are in a stock truck. someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but I think I have the "small" hump.
IMO, I think that the tall one, one of the trucks that I've got has one that's much shorter than that, and another truck that I've got doesn't have one at all, just a piece of sheet metal spot-welded in from the factory.
thanks, as I've never seen another, I assumed that it was a short one because it's about 3-3.5" tall. I would like to know the correct height, as sometime I will be ordering the rubber floor and want to get the correct one.
I will keep you all in mind. Salvage yard in denton tx says he has one. I also have a half sheet of alum that i could fab one it i need to. The info i really need is where to start to cut hole in my hump and demensions it needs to be. i know this t-18 will sit high so hole i would think needs to be at least the size of top on tranny.
I can measure mine when I get home tonight. I don't think the opening in the floor really needs to be as big as it is, but it sure helped when putting the tranny in.
another consideration when making your own. what are you covering it with? stock carpet? rubbermatt? I will be ordering a rubber matt for mine and there are two sizes to choose from. just a thought.
i want mine to look as factory as possile. I will take all suggestions. Thanks!
