my 72/69 f100

Post by SteveC »

OK i thought since i got this far with the 70 and 72 combination i figured ill just put all this into one thread so im not trying to update different ones

Here is were i got them
http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... highlight=

and where i made the the decision that the 70 was FAR to rusted to try and save when the 72 one was 3 spots of rust and they are minor
http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... highlight=

Ok and most most recent stuff

got the Stuck 360 out of the 72 and found out why it was stuck

Got the cab off and Dad taught me how to run a cutting torch so we can make a trailer frame to trade the guy for the 83 f100

That is all i have right now. All that is left of the 70 is a rolling frame and a few small parts
ill usally try to update on fridays if i remember my camera

ya the chain hoist is nice and it can rotate to about any where in front of the shop. It is very useful to get the cab and box off of the frame

just waiting to add the transmission from a 80's f150 it is either a T170FT (Code-RTS) toploader with over drive or a T-19 not sure which.

When i get the transmission out next week then i can get to finding out which flywheel i need and once i get all the clutch and transmission ,exhaust work done to the frame i can start adding the body back on.

What also helps beside a chain hoist is dads case tractor with the front loader..makes removing engines and hauling parts around the property out of the way a breeze

Ok scrapped the t170 series transmission idea...to hard to get parts and such. I there for have moved on to luckly find a m5r2 5 speed overdrive Transmission. They didnt have the clutch assembally unfortunattly so i ordered a whole new kit from NPD...figured might as well get the new kit that way im not pulling the transmission later to have to replace it.
So if i got that ordered right that just leaves the flywheel to find.

I need to pull the c-4 that is on there now and find out which one i need and then start hunting. why in the world ford made it this complicated :?
Finally getting one step closer to getting this thing back together..

Anyway a few pics of my new found toy

ok dad has been busy in the few weeks that i havent been able to go up to help.
Frame painted, the engine and transmission put together, and put into the frame.

Need to find the slip yoke correct for the m5r2 transmission since i dont have one.. redo all brake lines and hardwear, get a final decision on which fuel tank to use. Get all the wiring to the engine hooked up and the fuel pumps bought and put on. and start adding body back on and get the hydolic clutch hooked up.

How are you going to do the hydraulics? Check out my project page for pics how I ended up doing mine. The firewall isn't very strong in these things so I had to reinforce it a lot. Project looks really good though.

i have one idea i got for avaragef250(spelling???) but ill check yours out as well... im up for any good ideas.
and to bad i didnt bring my camera yesturday we got the drive shaft all installed.... we accually had enough parts laying around to make one fit with out having to cut a thing... just a few new u joints and a trip to the pasture for the correct slip yoke and it all fit.

wow been forever since i updated this... not that ive been able to do anything update worthy till recently
thou with the pictures i can see just how much i missed painting and the primer shows through.... just have to por 15 it later

cab ready to be bolted down after rust fixed and por-15 brushed on.
Image

Image

other parts por-15 and ready to be put on along with a top shot of the custom built gas tank(holds around 24.3 gallons)

Image

Image

Fuel pump (low pressure) and fuel accumulater/filter mock up started

Image

Floor inside por-15 and been working on mock up of newer style dash... also found out that the 91's factory radio will fit in the dash with no major mods... the tabs are still there if i every would want to go back to the 70's style radio

Image

Image

Image

think that this is about all for now. Got some wiring ahead of me nothing to major... expect for the ignition wiring that has me a bit confussed for the molent... but with some help from some of the more electrical incligned people here that has been coming along better.

i Just really want to hear this thing run.

thanks for reading
