Frame swap that has turned into a hole lot more

Post by prostreetjim »

Well, started out I was going to put a new frame under it and you know the story. While I got it apart I can clean it up, paint a little, rebuild this and then that, before long you got yourself into a full blown project that your weren't going to do. Front end was redone added power steering, new rear end, brakes, lines, wiring. working at getting it back together now. tring to decide on the color I'm going to paint it. This was my first total tear down rebuild. when you look at the pics you can see the hack job on the frame and why I had to swap it, when I wenched the cab back to clean it up the frame broke just from the wench hooked to it. this thing is a tork monster with the 460, should hook straight now

I just went through all that when i did a cab swap on my 70. Starts out one semi simple swap and then its a full blown rebuild. Now i got a new cab and transmission and the motor wouldn't run now :x. What's the best time you've got with that truck?

This was a pic of the old frame I took off. It had traction bars on it. That was why the frame was cut up because of how they were mounted. I am not going to put them back on, unless I find a different style. the spring setup should work out. I got a new set of tires and wheels and they are wider than what was on it

That's a nice truck. I vote that you paint it black again. It looks bad ass all black. :D
The word "jones" is a slang term meaning to crave, want, or desire; or, to feel withdrawal from an activity of passion. The general slang meaning is often associated with addictive substance habits but can be applied on a more universal scale.

There are some pics of the new frame in my photos, the ride doesn't really change by moving the springs, you just swap the springs left to right, move them to the inside using the same holes with a stableizer plate. just makes room for the meaty tires. these trucks are the easiest tub to do I think

The tires are the same size 31x18.5 the rims are 3 inches wider 15x15, styles are the same. the rear end is 44 inches wide the old one is 40" with the width, off set of the rim my wheel wells are full with this setup. My plan was to use the old rearend and tires to build me 1 more project, I see now I have more on my plate than time. So I'm going to sell the extra parts and recoup some of the funds I've spent.

So the front sump oil pan on the 460 will work?
How much room is there between the pan and the cross member?

Well my motor was a front pump and there is about 2 inches clearance. I was more concerned about the trans clearance, I think by cab was a small block or a 6 cylinder because i didn't have a high hump with the removeable plate, It worked out fine and 1 less problem I didn't have to worry about

Sweet deal. Good to know. My 460 also has a front sump pan. I feel better now knowing I dont have to spend $200 on a rear sump pan. :D
