Lug Nut

Post by alvinator »

I bought a F-250 4x4 and it has the locking lug nuts on the 4 wheels. I did not get a key when i bought the truck, so can a tire place get them off? or any suggestions?

It depends on what kind of lock it is but if it is the fat tapered style you can hammer a 12 point socket onto them and unscrew them. Don't be afraid to drive them on good and hard or they will just slip. Be sure to use Craftsman sockets so you can exchange them afterwards. Hawkrod

Use an air hammer w/ good trigger control and a semi blunt chisel bite. The Rav4 my Daugher bought had locks and no key, took me 5 mins to remove all 4.

Those are easy, they are called spline drive and depending what brand they are you can even get a key. The ones made by Dorman all use the same key and you can buy a new set and use the key from those (probably not that lucky!). I would use a cutoff wheel and cut a slot in the top and then use a impact driver with a big slotted tip. Just about guaranteed to work and not bung up the rims. Hawkrod
