Converting 67 w/352 C6 to a 302 with a C4

Post by dag302 »

I have been looking for some information on the tranny mount. What all do I need to change when doing this swap.

Thanks, David

You mean the removable transmission crossmember? They're the same for all transmissions, automatic or manual. However, it will mount in a different spot on the frame. Since the small-block/automatic wasn't available in '67, the holes to bolt the crossmember to the frame probably won't be there, so you'll just have to drill them. No biggie...

When I went from my T-18 (4speed) to C4 behind my 240 (same bolt pattern and geography as your 302) I found that there were correct bolt holes already in the frame so that moving the crossmember was the LEAST of my problems.

The metal/rubber tranny mount between the crossmember and tranny is offset. You can turn it 180 and it will help you deal with bolt spacing as well.

What was clear to me, is that Ford knew for some time that they wanted to pre-drill holes in the frame for several different trannies and not have to hassle during assembly.

Unfortunately, getting a C4 in a 67 may be a challenge, as long as the middle cross member is in place. I hope you intend to assemble the engine and tranny first and then manuver the whole thing into the vehicle (potentially with the radiator and/or front clip removed). Otherwise, you WILL need to remove the rivots in the middle cross member and move it.

Don't ask now I know.......
65 f-100 SWB, 240 I6, T-18, now swapped to C4 with difficulty. Yeah, I know. Its a 67-72 site. But my frame and entire drive train are just like yours!!!!
