Now you all have me worried. I had my old F-250 wired so the ash tray had to be out to enablee the ignition. Pain in the but when your passenger pushes it in.
I think the neutral safety switch and good insurance is the key. I'm not worried too much about the cost or finding another 67-72 but the blood sweat and tears that make shrektruck mine would be a shame to lose.

re: "Theft deterrant"
Well if I ever start stealing trucks, I could get past most of that stuff pretty fast since I would hot wire and start it under the hood anyway. Even a fuel shutoff would be easy to get past with a 2 gallon jug and a chunk of hose to stick under the hood. It probably wouldn't take much practice to be gone in 60 seconds. A good hood lock would slow me down though.

Some SOB stole my spare off my 1999 Ford f250 4X4!
I use the truck to tow my 67 Ford Good Humor truck to show and events over 20 miles from my town, (it runs great, just geared low, and no top so it is like a whirlwind going thru it) , and most of the time it is within view at all times, or in my garage.
They cut the dam cable. The tire was NEW....What the hell is wrong with some people..Idiots..Jerks..
Just had to vent
....AH I feel much better.

I think we need to market some kind of frag grenade for those type of applications. Something that would explode and sent thousands of tiny sharp shrapnel into the skin of the theif, permanently tattooing his face in some sort of hideous blotch. It wouldn't harm the truck and would only have about an arms length "kill" zone.
