Post by Frankenstein »

...and now Im ready to put on the new one but it came with a little spacer. Does the spacer go on first like this...

or last like this?...

And of course they gave me the wrong U-joints at the parts store so now I get to play that game with the 17 year old behind the counter. "What do you mean look in the other boxes? It has to be right thats what the computer says it takes."

I have a 2 pc. drive shaft and the front 2 were right from autozone but the rear was way off and the @#$%%^$#@#$%$#$% behind the counter while on his phone came out and handed me a box full of the ubolts that hold the rear ujoint in place and I laughed at first wondering what in the heck he was doing but then when I realized he was serious after he made the comment of "Is this what you are looking for" I asked him "does this look like a ujoint". to make a long story short I went to Mesa DriveShaft in Mesa,Az they hooked me up on the first try. I payed for it but it was worth it for every ounce of anger I had at the kid at autozone. As far as the carrier bearing goes I have no idea I left mine on, it's been sitting for at least 9 years but it looks brand new so i'm gonna cross my fingers, I actually thought you had to press those onto the driveshaft.

i have never done this myself. but i watched my dad press it on 4 years ago. but i would think the bushing goes on first. becuase if it were to go on last it would want to fall sldie around with the back half of the drive shaft. and i dont remember ever seeing a bushing sldie around the with the back half of the driveshaft.

It looks like the old setup had the same thing... Looks like the old spacer is still on your driveshaft. :dk: :2cents:

Yup is sure was. I cut it off the same way I got the old bering off then just slid the new bering back. The whole thing is back in the truck and there is no more slop. Now I have to get the new tires on to replace the first generation GT's that are on it now maybe then it wont shake when it's going faster than 55mph.
