speedo no worky

Post by 1971ford »

when we swapped the 429/rebuilt c6 into the 71, we didnt save the speedo from the donor truck and the 71 had the wrong type. so we went to the junkyard and we got a speedo with the right tranny connector. so i installed it and it screwed into the cluster fine and went into the tranny fine. but the speedo no worky :( id like to know how fast were going when were testing the 429's abilities :D

i dont remember if we grabbed the speedo from a dent or a bump. but i thought if both the ends connect then it should work. hmmmm

the inner cable is either stuck or broken. it could also be the plastic gear inside the transmission that broke. or maybe the speedo head. those are the things i can see that could have went wrong. you can test the head and cable by removing it from the trans and spinning it with your hand while its still connected to the head. if the head moves when the inner cable is spun then it was either stuck or the plastic gear in the trans has a problem.

How about a report on the 429? Was it worth the trouble? Let us know, huh...............

you can check out my project thread titled something like "71 f250 DESERT truck.." and i have the engine swap and all in there.

but it was DEFINATELY worth the swap

im thinking i might do a little write-up on swapping a 460 into a bump.
