Well Ive got and Interesting problem my 67 F-250 has been acting a bit odd. I just dropped in a new C6 and for some odd reason when in park if I bring the RPM's over 2500 it will jump from Park all the way into Drive, and it does move the colum. Anyone got and ideas or tips cause with it like that I dont feel safe having it in Park and having to hop out of the Truck, as it did take off on me before and went through my garage door.
That sounds very much like an internal problem with the tranny, combined with a wornout locking slot up in the hub of the column inside the cab. The tranny should NOT jump out of park, even with no steering column attached. Normally, when the column is in park, there is a "catch" up in the hub (that's why you have to pull the shift lever towards you in a proper fxning setup to release that Park catch). The column, if working right and properly adjusted, would not allow the lower shift arm on the tranny to move over to D.
So my dx is that you have TWO problems. Sorry....
65 f-100 SWB, 240 I6, T-18, now swapped to C4 with difficulty. Yeah, I know. Its a 67-72 site. But my frame and entire drive train are just like yours!!!!
I too think you have 2 problems and the main one is internal to the trans... When the pressure is going up it is moving the valve in the valve body forcing it into gear. You can work on the valve body in or out of the trans as needed without having to pull the trans. I’m not much help from there…
For the shifter check out this recent thread http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =4&t=36586

If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...
i wonder if maybe hes got a broken motor mount. the column should still stay in park though. if the motor torques over enough (2500 rpm might be enough) it could raise that side enough to shift. maybe try it while you hold the shifter from moving. see if it goes back top park when you let off. be careful whatever you do.
Well I figured it out. The shop that I had the trans built at didnt build it right, as I just lost Park, Reverse, Neutral, and 3rd. So I took I it back to them and apparently some internal clutch plate wasn't installed properly and seized up. Im currently waiting for the shop to build a new one.
In the late 70's Ford had a recall of a run of C6's that were jumping out of park and into reverse. My neighbor bought me a new grille for my '79 LTD when his '78 F100 jumped from park and into the front of my car with his tailgate down. Both of our vehicles had recalls outstanding on them so they both went into the shop promptly and Ford fixed them. Glad you have your problem getting fixed but it might be worth checking the numbers on the case to see if it was included in the recall or have the shop look into it.
I think the C4s did the shimmy shimmy coco pop too. I had a 72 with a 302/C4 and it had the door sticker, which was the bigger part of the fix I believe
I bought a 68 F-250 with a 240/C4. I had to ride the ferry over to a Seattle suburb to get it. When I got on the ferry I put it in park and still had it running. It jumped into reverse and almost made contact with the car behind me. All it took was a little adjusting to cure the issue and it never did it again with me.
