9 inch carrier I.D

i am new here and have a 69 f100 i need some help with i just bought a 3rd member from a wrecking yard and have i think it is a traction lok carrier i dont have the tag off the rearend but i have the ford numbers off the part i think is the traction lok unit that is bolted to the ring gear
here are the ford numbers i hope someone can identify it with these it seems everyone in my area is a expert on trucks that are not fords

can you get a pic of it? the numbers should have a "L" in them some place i think.

Opened the 9" from my 74 and found that the carrier was stamped c6aw4205b,
The axle code was for an open carrier but this appeaars to be a trak lok carrier, below is a pic of what it looks like. Am I correct to think that someone changed the carrier to the track lok? also if it is a trak lok does anyone make a rebuild kit for it?

It appears to be a trac lok C6 would be for the year 66 as for rebuilding it complete offroad sells parts to rebuild them as does currie ent. I blewup the clutch cover on my trac lok which is common, with 31intires and to much gas pedal I rebuilt it using curries billet clutch cover $140( which they claim has never been broken) new clutch plates, steels, springs, sidegears, and spider gears I think at the time it all cost about $300 probably should have spent $100 more for a detriot but I wanted to keep it stock.

anyone know if this is a traction lock C6AW4206 & do i need limited slip addative when using amsoil in the 9" i think that its loudly clunking very seldom but sometimes. once in a greaT while it'll feel like somebody threw an m-80 underneath it but only very seldom im gonna pull the pig here shortly & see if i see anything hopefully i wont & im gonna put severe duty synthetic amsoil in there with some limited slip addative i guess? any help wood be helpful. thanx branchbreaker

I'm pretty sure it is a trac loc I'm not sure about amsoil but if its clunking on you than yes you probably need some friction modifier cant hurt either way.

i will see if i can get pics of it later this morning But i was looking at pics of new ones on a another web site and the one that looked like mine was a new locker type you cannot see my spider gears real easy there is only a small hole on the cover that you can look into and see them down in it But another place i was looking at said you can tell a lok type is by what size the bolts are on the cover and mine are 3/4 inch
i had a local man who repairs them tell me all week he would take a look at it anytime but now i have to wait untill monday IF i am off work

Flash, saw your PM but didnt realize you had a post.

Look at the ring gear bolts.

If its a posi, the bolts that hold the ring gear on will be countersunk into the carrier itself.



If its an open rear, the heads of the bolts just sit on top. See where there is not place for the bolt to recess in the following pic

mine looks more like the second one does no countersunk bolts but it does not look exactly like it though
this thing has me stumped a little bit
i was hoping it was a posi but guess i will need to find one to install in it before i stick it in my truck i use it to haul firewood and stuff and i am tired of getting stuck all the time with it
