I went under my truck while it was running and my tranny whine is coming from my torgue converter and was wondering what could cause that?? It dosen't seem to affect the shifting or going into gear of the tranny but it still bothers me since I'm gonna be driving the truck daily soon. So any help why or how I may be able to fix it without too much work or $$$? Thanks for help Oooh I guess I should say its a C6.
Also when the truck gets warmed up after driving it around the block a few times theres also a noise that sounds like a vaccum leak but I've checked the vaccum line running to the tranny and it isn't leaking. It usually olny makes that noise when it just ideling when I give it gas it seems to stop. I just hope the tranny isn't going out

I put a Chevy ZZ4 in a 56 Chevy about 8 yrs ago and had a funny thing happen
I had a PCV but no breather on the other side, it would do the same thing
We even had the tranny out, turns out it was vacuum pulling by the rear main making a whistle.
Not sure if yours has a PCV without a breather on the other valve cover, but if it did, theres a place to look
71 F-100 SB 4x4, 461 FE, Edelbrock Pro-flo 4, 4 speed, 4 inch softride lift, all poly bushings, integral PS, most mods installed since the 80's
70 Mustang Sportsroof 489 FE, EFI, TKO-600 5 speed, 4.11s Engine building by-appointment only--30+ years, specializing in strong street pump gas FEs
I'll try that because the orignal valve covers had a PVC in them and the I put some after marker ones on that have a place for them but I lost the PVC valve so I just stuck the hose in the hole on the valve cover.

I had a mercury that I rebuilt the tranny on and didnt replace the torque converter and a little while after driving it I had a whine in mine.
Turns out it was the torque converter.
Something to think about.
Did you still drive it anyways?? How long did it take till it when out?? My dads gonna be parting out his van soon and its got the same tranny as the one in my truck so I'm gonna keep it for a back up incase this one does bite the dust.

Sweet!! All it has to hold up to is driving to school everyday about 15mi a day so it should hold together for that.
Its bein an up hill battle with my dad with anything involving my 70 and I thought this might be the last nail in the cofifn as far as convincing him its ready to use as my daily driver. He dosen't have as much faith in my truck as I do

That 'vaccum leak sound' might be just the air going into the carb. It's usually a lot louder when the air filter is off or you're using an open-element filter. (You ARE using an air filter, right?)
If you've got power brakes, you might want to check the line going to the booster for leaks, or the booster itself.
