Brake warning light

Post by slopjockey »

Hey guys, I think the bulb in my brake warning light may be bad. Question is, how do you get to it? I seems to want to pull outward, but it has some type of spring clip holding it. It even looks like you might have to take the parking brake assembly loose just to be able to put your hand in there. Any suggestions?
I love the smell of an old truck in the morning.

First of all, that dash-mounted light has absolutely nothing to do with the e-brake. That's the warning light hooked up to the brake distribution block down on the frame. There's an electrical switch on top of that block, which is triggered any time you lose brakeline pressure in either the front or rear brake circuit. You shouldn't ever see that come on unless you're having brake problems, or possibly just bled the brakes and need to re-center the valve inside.

However, to remove the bulb to at least make sure it's good, you have to reach up under the dash, push in and twist (while holding onto the bezel from the front). I'd run a quick continuity test with an ohmmeter to ensure the bulb is good, and if so, replace it and count yourself lucky that you haven't seen it lit up before. :D
