What are you going to do with the fuel switch, you getting rid of the second tank?
Wish my truck was as shinny as yours, and that the upper seat belt mount was on the side instead of the back
Also, what brand of tach did you use?

Yeah I had to hang a good light to work. My next round of glasses will be bifocals and holding a Maglite in my yap like a cigar gets old after awhile.

I deleted the second tank last year. Eventually the cab tank will get replaced with one under the rear of the bed. I'm going to sell the fuel switch and the tank selector valve. If you're interested shoot me a p/m. If not I'll post them in the classified forum.

I used a Sunpro Super Tach II. I had a couple of them back in dancing days and they worked good. Not race car quality but fairly accurate and easy to read. :)

We'll see how things go Steve. Last year the gas hit me like a lot of other folks and I had to miss out. :( This year money is just tight period. I'll try to make it though. :)

Meanwhile back in the storage building where the clink of tools barely be heard over the almost endless gunfire coming from a shooting range about 500 yards away I'm making more progress. Seat is back in. Had to tweak the seat belt retractors one last time. Finished the turn sigals, cleaned up a bit and started on my antifreeze leak. Found whoever installed the intake manifold neglected to torque the bolts. Must have been the same person who wired the distributor. I don't know how it ran. Got the intake off and made a parts list. I'll stop after work tomorrow to order the stuff. More pics coming.

Here's a little more. Engine started leaking antifreeze last winter. Turned out to be the rear of the intake manifold. Since the leak was minor ( only leaked when very cold out) and it wasn't internal I let it go until now.

Image

Pulled the intake only to find the bolts were slightly more than finger tight. Inside of the engine looks like new. :D While it's down it's getting all new hoses, the broken heater valve replaced, the last of the hacked up wiring repaired and some other small items.

Image

Intake is back on and torqued down the way Edelbrock says it should be. Also got the distributor and the valve covers resealed and back on. The distributor wiring is so hacked I don't know how it ran. :hmm: The distributor is a Mallory Unilite. Mallory specs call for a ballast resistor if the vehicle doesn't use a resistor wire to supply the coil. Whoever installed it apparently didn't understand the instructions and added a ballast resistor to the original wiring. It was getting a little less than 4 and 1/2 volts to the coil.

Another little update. Engine work is finished. Got it running Saturday and finished the little stuff. Yesterday is got a bath then a nice ride to my folks house for Easter dinner. :D

Next up is exhaust. The crossover pipe has more pin holes than a screen door. Also both manifolds are pretty much junk due to someone's attempt at removing broken studs. My first game plan was to send it out to have a system built for it but due to current economic conditions ( overtime is a dirty word and side work is minimal ) that plan got shelved. New game plan is to use a set of duals from a dent I scrapped and a set of manifolds from a 95 I scored at a salvage yard. The manifolds came with short sections of pipe. The dent had a 390. I'm a pretty fair welder. I'll post some pics as it goes along. :)
